The division bench of Chief Justice Arun Kumar Mishra and Sangeet Lodha was hearing a contempt petition filed by a citizen of Udaipur Rajendra Rajdan in 2010 after the previous orders by the court disposing off his PIL were not complied with.

Having completed the hearing of this contempt petition yesterday, the bench expressed resentment over all the construction in the lakes of Udaipur and its catchment area and ordered to demolish the 5-star hotel in the Udai Sagar Lake.

The court also imposed a penalty of Rs one crore on the group constructing this hotel for the road built in the lake for the access to the hotel.

The court also ordered to raze about 40 other constructions falling in either the lakes or their water catchment area and has also ordered to declare the three lakes of Udaipur as 'no-plastic zone'.

Holding government responsible for the encroachments, the Rajasthan High Court also expressed its disappointment over the slackness of the government in protecting the natural water resources and has sought the compliance report of its order in a month.
