Select edible oil prices strengthened by Rs 50 per quintal at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market today on sustained buying by vanaspati millers amid a firming global trend.
In the non-edible section, linseed oil also went up on fresh enquiries from consuming industries.
Traders said increased buying by vanaspati millers amid a firming global trend as flooding in Malaysia hurt prospects for harvesting, compounding a seasonal slowdown in production in the largest grower after Indonesia, mainly boosted the sentiment.
In the national capital, groundnut mill delivery (Gujarat) and cottonseed mill delivery (Haryana) oils rose by Rs 50 each to Rs 8,200 and Rs 5,700 per quintal, respectively.
Tracking a firming global trend, palmolein (rbd) and palmolein (Kandla) oils added Rs 50 each to Rs 5,900 and Rs 5,700 per quintal, respectively.
Soyabean refined mill delivery (Indore) and soyabean degum (Kandla) oils followed suit and enquired higher by a similar margin to Rs 6,750 and Rs 6,450 per quintal, respectively.
In the non-edible segment, linseed oil edged up by Rs 50 to Rs 8,200 per quintal on fresh enquiries from paint units.
