Steel and Mines Minister Narendra Singh Tomar today directed PSUs under the ministry, including domestic giant SAIL, to ensure timely completion of projects.
The instructions come in the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking a "serious note" on the delay in the modernisation and expansion programme of SAIL's largest steel making unit -- Bhilai Steel Plant.
"Interacted with Project managers of PSUs under Ministry of Steel today. Told these Project managers to introspect honestly on delays and ensure that there is no time overrun in future," Tomar tweeted.
Such deliberations should happen twice a year on how to develop the company and the country, he added.
"Advised them to adopt a result oriented approach, with no speed breakers and bumps. Present government lays much emphasis on performance and efficiency," he said.
Government expects the same from all PSUs in every sphere of work. The country can not afford cost and time over runs, the Minister said.
"Therefore a culture of performance and commitment is the need of the hour. We need to objectively analyse our mistakes and failures to learn from them and to avoid repeating them. Advised them that the PSU s should arrive at a coordinated strategy to achieve synergies," Tomar added.
Yesterday, Modi chaired his 12th interaction through PRAGATI - the ICT-based, multi-modal platform for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation. He reviewed the progress of vital infrastructure projects in the road, railway, steel and power sectors, according to an official statement.
"The Prime Minister reviewed progress of modernisation and expansion works for the Bhilai Steel Plant. Taking serious note of the delay in this project, he asked the Steel and Heavy Engineering Ministries to sort out all issues, and complete the project at the earliest," it had said.
