Sugar prices were up by 1.24 per cent to Rs 3,749 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators built up fresh positions amid upsurge in demand in the spot market.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in March 2017 rose by 46, or 1.24 per cent, to Rs 3,749 per quintal, with an open interest of 4,860 lots.
Analysts said, building up of positions by participants on the back of pick up in demand from bulk consumers at the spot markets mainly attributed the rise in sugar prices at futures trade.
