The Trinamool Congress (TMC) today said it would observe the anniversary of demonetisation on November 8 as "black day" and also protest the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on that day.
"We will observe black day on November 8. Our party workers will take to the streets throughout West Bengal to protest against demonetisation and the implementation of the GST, which have caused immense sufferings to the people," TMC secretary general Partha Chatterjee told reporters here.
Alleging that the Centre's policies were weakening the economy, he said, "We are protesting against it. The people are realising that (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi's 'achhe din' slogan has turned out to be disastrous for them."
Chatterjee alleged that a few lakhs of people had lost jobs in the country due to the Centre's decision to scrap high-value currency notes.
The GST had added more miseries to the lives of the people, he alleged.
The decision to scrap the old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 bank notes was announced by the BJP-led central government on November 8 last year.
