Press Trust of India New Delhi
Indian patent office today said it has started SMS alert facility for the applicants and agents to inform them about the status of their application.

The Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM), under the commerce and industry ministry, said the alerts will also inform the applicants about timelines and deficiencies which may lead to refusal or abandonment of application.

Through this facility, the applicants and agents "will receive alert informing them the progress of applications at various stages of processing," CGPDTM said in a statement.

It said that in order to avail this facility, applicants and agents are requested to update their mobile numbers in the address for service for applications.

The move assumes significance as the government is taking steps to facilitate patent filing and reduce pendency of applications.
