Press Trust of India Madurai
: Madras high court today directed trial courts to give "D.V.No"to domestic violence cases.

Presently the courts give "M.C.No" which indicates both Miscellaneous Case Number and Maintenance Case Number (filed under Cr.P.C.Sec125).

Justice S.Vaidyanathan who gave the direction said giving "M.C.No."Creates confusion at the threshold as to whether M.C.No refers to "Miscellaneous case Number" or Maintenance case Number(Maintenance case is filed by woman during divorce cases) under Cr.P.C.125.

He directed the registry to issue circular to all trial courts that cases coming within the purview of the Domestic violence act be given "D.V.No"from January 2016.

The judge gave the direction while disposing a case seeking to quash a case filed under domestic violence, pending against a woman and two others, pending in the Judicial Magistrate court at thanjavur.
