Two children, brother and sister, died after they were washed away in a canal in the Sinhgad Road area here on Wednesday, police said.
The district authorities released water for Daund and Indapur tehsils from the Khadakwasla reservoir through this canal yesterday.
Krishna Dhande (7) and Laxmi Dhande (8), the deceased kids, apparently fell into the canal while playing, police said, adding that the bodies were fished out today near the Empress Garden, 15 km away from the spot.

Meanwhile, MNS, which had opposed the release of water on the ground that it would increase the water shortage in Pune city, today alleged that the district administration did not issue any warning before releasing the water, which caused this tragedy.
A case of negligence should be registered against the authorities, it said.
