HIL Ltd wins JIPM's TPM award for Kondapalli unit

HIL Limited, a part of the CK Birla Group’s home and building cluster, has been conferred upon the TPM (Total Productivity Management) Award 2016 by Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) for its Kondapalli unit (Andhra Pradesh). HIL Limited is one of the world's largest manufacturers and sellers of fibre cement roofing and green building products.
 
With this, HIL Limited has become the first Indian company in the roofing segment to have applied and received a TPM award in category B. This prestigious award comes in recognition of the plant’s manufacturing excellence that has been able to set a benchmark across the industry.
   
Prashant Vatkar, managing director, HIL Limited, said, “TPM is an imperative to make a mark in the modern manufacturing scenario. As a result of the TPM implementation, we have witnessed a drastic cultural transformation in the overall functioning on all the plants of HIL Ltd. Owing to this shift, our plants and the Kondapalli plant in particular has seen increased ownership and enhanced skillset among employees. The Kondapalli plant has increased production capacity in each of the lines by 4,000 MT per month and the rate of rejection has reduced significantly.”
 
Presently, the Kondapalli plant, located in Andhra Pradesh accounts for a significant contribution to the total production of fibre cement sheets for the company from its fully automated manufacturing lines. The plant largely produces corrugated roofing sheet and moulding accessories used in various roofing applications.
