Players of German football club FC Bayern (Bayern Munich) wore clothes made from plastic waste found in the sea for their home match against TSG Hoffenheim in Munich on Saturday. Club partner Adidas presented the Adidas x Parley FC Bayern Munchen shirt, which is entirely made of Ocean Plastic - fibres from recycled plastic found in coastal areas of the Maledives.

“I am a child of the beaches of Spain, so I am really happy to wear a shirt entirely made of recycled ocean waste. It is a great opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the oceans,” said Bayern pro Xabi Alonso.

The deliberately ‘clean’ design of the shirt reflects the Parley message: the collar logo is ‘For the oceans’, the club logo and the three adidas stripes are integrated in red using a special eco-friendly process.

Parley for the Oceans is an organisation of creators, thinkers and leaders. Their goal is to raise awareness about the condition of our oceans and to launch projects to protect and preserve the oceans. Adidas, co-founder of Parley for the Oceans, supports the organisation in terms of education and communication as well as their ‘Ocean Plastic Programme’ to put an end to the pollution of the seas. In cooperation with Parley, Adidas develops methods to make premium yarns and fibres from plastic waste.
