Mumbai Indians registered their first win of the WPL 2025 season as they beat Gujarat Giants by 5 wickets in Vadodara on February 18. Nat Sciver-Brunt's resilient fifty led them to easily chase down a modest 121-run target against the hosts Gujarat and get their first points in the table as well.
Earlier, Gujarat Giants set a 121-run target for the Mumbai Indians in Vadodara. Wickets at regular intervals from Mumbai Indians made sure that they restricted the high flying GG batters on the night. Openers Laura and Beth failed to give their saide a fiery start as Gujarat lost 4 wickets within the powerplay making things dicey for them. Hayley Matthews ended up with 3 wickets as Nat Sciver-brunt and Amelia kerr also took 2 scalps each on the night to restrict the hosts at 120 in their 20 overs.
In reply, opener hayley Matthews gave MI a good start but had to depart on 17 runs. However, it was the inspiring innings of Nat Sciver-Brunt whose 39-ball 57 steered the side to the target despite of the visitors losing regular wickets in the middle.
Her partnership with Amelia Kerr (19) was also a good one in the chase which didn't put MI into a lot of trouble.
