Competition Commission orders probe against Google for alleged unfair business with respect to listing of real money games on Play Store.  The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered that all Grap IV measures except those relating to schools will continue to operate till Dec 2.  JMM leader Hemant Soren took oath as the 14th chief minister of Jharkhand in a grand ceremony here on Thursday, amid the presence of a galaxy of INDIA bloc leaders. The 49-year-old tribal leader was sworn in as the chief minister by Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar. The governor administered the oath of office and secrecy to Soren at a function held in Morabadi ground in Ranchi, where Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal were present.  UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar stated that Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) will soon be able to offer an option to undergraduate students to shorten or extend their study durations instead of the standard duration of their degree programmes. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved the SOPs for HEIs to offer the Accelerated Degree Programme (ADP) and Extended Degree Programme (EDP) in a meeting this week. The draft norms will now be put in the public domain for feedback from stakeholders.  External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is likely to address both Houses Parliament tomorrow, after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi today to discuss attacks on religious minorities, including Hindus, in neighbouring Bangladesh.  An Enforcement Directorate team undertaking searches in a cyber fraud linked money laundering case was allegedly attacked here on Thursday, officials said. The agency has registered a police FIR about the incident that took place at a farmhouse that was raided by ED officials in the Bijwasan area of the national capital. 
  Hemant Soren is set to take oath as the 14th chief minister of Jharkhand in a grand ceremony at Morabadi Ground on Thursday, with several prominent political leaders and dignitaries, including key members of the INDIA bloc, expected to be in attendance. Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Soren at 4 pm. This will be the 49-year-old JMM leader's fourth stint as chief minister. Soren retained the Barhait seat by defeating BJP's Gamliyel Hembrom by a margin of 39,791 votes in the recently held Assembly polls. Soren's JMM-led alliance stormed to victory, securing 56 seats in the 81-member assembly, while the BJP-led NDA managed 24 seats.
  Two Maoists have been arrested and arms and ammunitions seized following a gunfight between the red rebels and the police in Jharkhand's Latehar district, a senior officer said on Tuesday. A gunfight broke out between the police and members of the banned Maoist outfit Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) in Sikit-Bandua forest in Herhanj police station area on Monday night, they said.
  US President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday said Mexico has agreed to immediately stop illegal immigrants from going to its border with the United States. This comes days after Trump threatened to impose a 25 per cent tariff on all imports from Mexico and Canada for their inability to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he spoke to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo on the phone and the two had a productive conversation.

Police arrest cook accused of killing 65-year-old south Delhi businessman

The Delhi Police has arrested the prime accused in the murder case of a 64-year-old businessman in Panchsheel Park of south Delhi, an official on Thursday said.

The accused, identified as Abhay Sikarwar, a 25-year-old resident of Madhya Pradesh, was arrested from the Moti Nagar area where he had been working as a cook, they said.
 
"His arrest followed an extensive investigation involving multiple teams," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan said.

Sikarwar's arrest was made possible after analysing more than 500 CCTV footage, he said.

Aircraft lessor Aircastle withdraws insolvency case against airline: SpiceJet

SpiceJet on Thursday said aircraft lessor Aircastle has withdrawn the insolvency case against the airline following a "mutually agreed upon settlement".
 
Last month, SpiceJet announced the resolution of a USD 23.39 million dispute with Aircastle (Ireland) Designated Activity Company and Wilmington Trust SP Services (Dublin) Ltd.
 
"Aircastle (Ireland) Designated Activity Company has withdrawn its insolvency case against SpiceJet before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). This follows a mutually agreed-upon settlement, marking a positive turn in the airline's efforts to rebuild and strengthen ties with its partners," the airline said in a statement.

Sambhal: Police hold flag march, watertight security in place for Friday prayers

Police held flag marches in areas near the Shahi Jama Masjid here on Thursday, a day before Friday prayers, with top officials saying watertight security was put in place to prevent untoward incidents.

Additionally, Friday's court hearing on the matter has led to security being further tightened.

The flag march was led by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Srish Chandra. The police team marched through the busy markets that partially reopened on Thursday.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan calls for strict action against sale of spurious seeds, fertilisers, pesticides

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday said there should be strict action against those selling spurious seeds, fertilisers and pesticides to protect farmers' interests.

According to an official statement, he said, "Farmers of the country should be ensured to get good quality fertilisers, seeds and pesticides under all circumstances".

During the department-wise review of his ministry, Chouhan instructed the officers to take strict and effective action against the culprits for the larger welfare of the farmers.
 
He pointed out that "farmers often complain about receiving poor-quality inputs, resulting in significant losses".

Australia hiked international student visa fee from AUD 710 to AUD 1,600 from Jul 1: Govt

The fee for international student visas was increased by Australia from AUD 710 to AUD 1,600 with effect from July 1, the Centre informed Parliament on Thursday.
 
The written reply of Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh came in response to a query in the Rajya Sabha whether it was a fact that Australia has recently increased student visa fees by more than double the previous amount.
 
If so, did the Indian government approach Australia about reducing the student visa fee, the minister was also asked.

Entry-level workforce across key sectors to earn better salaries: Report

Entry-level jobs, which were witnessing a slowdown, are getting a boost as freshers are offered competitive salaries across key sectors, led by Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and non-tech sectors, a report said on Thursday.

The software development and engineering domain, which focuses on coding, designing, and maintaining software applications, is poised to offer lucrative opportunities, the report by TeamLease Digital said.

It said the increasing demand for Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) skills in software development to enhance productivity, accuracy, and innovation is further driving this trend.
 
As a result, entry-level positions in this domain are expected to see an average salary of Rs 9.37 lakh per annum in GCCs, followed by Rs 6.23 LPA in IT products and services, and Rs 6 LPA in non-tech sectors by the end of 2024-25, the report added.
The report by TeamLease is Digital is based on primary data from 15,000 job roles across GCCs, IT services, and non-tech sectors.

No political involvement in any case being probed by cops, says Goa CM

No political involvement has been found in various cases being probed by the police, including those related to jobs, land sale and financial misappropriation, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Thursday. Talking to reporters after chairing a cabinet meeting, the CM said police has been given a free hand to probe all such cases. "Cases of fraud related to sale of land, giving jobs and financial misappropriation are registered at various police stations. A detailed inquiry is being conducted. As per the police probe so far, no political involvement has been found in any of these cases," he said.

IAS officer Arun Gupta appointed as principal secretary to Haryana CM

Senior IAS officer Arun Kumar Gupta has been appointed as principal secretary to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, effective immediately. The state government has issued transfer and posting orders for four other bureaucrats. Gupta, a 1992-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, currently serves as the additional chief secretary in the Town and Country Planning Department and the Additional ACS in the Industries and Commerce Department.
