Indian companies have so far signed what the government described as the world’s largest green hydrogen offtake commitments, totalling more than 550,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) of green hydrogen equivalent, positioning the country as a global leader in the segment, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) said on Thursday.
“Since the launch of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) in 2023, altogether 23 offtake contracts covering about 5.5 lakh MTPA of Green Hydrogen equivalent have been signed, out of which over 70 percent are earmarked for exports,” the ministry said.
It added that in the current calendar year alone, Indian companies have signed 18 new offtake agreements for the supply of more than 400,000 TPA of green hydrogen equivalent.
Indian companies have forged strategic partnerships and binding green hydrogen offtake agreements across major global markets, the ministry said.
These green hydrogen projects are expected to attract total investments of around Rs 90,000 crore, or $9.5 billion, as Indian suppliers offer competitive prices for green ammonia and green methanol, strengthening the country’s position in European and Japanese markets, MNRE said.
