Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), the flagship entity of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), had set a target to produce 5.30 Million Tonnes (MT) of hot metal in the financial year 20013-14.The company that shares more than half of the SAIL's total profit had produced 2.0 Million Tonnes (MT) of hot metal in the previous financial year 2012-13. Despite slowdown and recession, the BSP performed well and achieved the 100 per cent mark for the annual maintenance.A statement issued by the company here said that the BSP began the new fiscal by achieving fulfillment of 100 per cent of Annual Business Plan in month of April 2013 for both Hot Metal and Saleable Steel. The state crime branch on Friday launched a massive crackdown on the companies involved in chit funds and similar financial activities across the state amid instances of large scale fraud."About 150 offices of such companies were raided by the state police simultaneously in 15 districts in a bid to verify authenticity of their businesses, approvals from Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI), volume of investment as well as depositors," said B K Sharma, additional director general, crime branch.The raids were conducted simultaneously in Balasore, Bargarh, Kendrapara, Jharsuguda, Bolangir, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Sundergarh, Sambalpur districts where the crime branch seized various documents, money receipts and computers besides detaining some employees of the companies."We have already instructed the district police offices in this regard and asked them to keep strict vigil on the activities of NBFCs and keep a tab on their ille

Chief minister, N Kiran Kumar Reddy, has asked the state government officials to expedite land acquisition process in Chittoor and Medak districts where  National Investment Manufacturing Zones (NIMZs) are proposed to be established.Reddy, who held a review meeting on the status of NIMZs on Friday, said a proposal to set up another NIMZ in Prakasam district may also be sent to the Centre.Â According to an official  release, the chief minister wanted setting up of four land acquisition units andÂ appointment of a senior IAS officer to oversee the project and ensure all the works were taken up in a phased manner.Â Officials were stated to have informed the chief minister that land acquisition in respect of Medak and Chittoor would be completed  soon as substantial part of the land meant for the project was in the possession of government.By March 2014, the detailed project report would be ready for final approval from the Centre.
