The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) 2025 concluded its first-leg action at the Vishwanadh Sports Club in Vizag with two big matches today. In the first match of the night, U Mumba beat Patna Piratesby the barest of bare margin by 40-39. Dabang Delhi thrashed Gujarat Giants 38-28 to regain the top spot at the points table replacing Puneri Paltan.
Match 1: U Mumba vs Patna Pirates
In a nail-biting Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 encounter, U Mumba edged past three-time champions Patna Pirates by a single point, winning 40-39 at the Vishwanadh Sports Club Stadium on Thursday.
The match was a rollercoaster of momentum swings. Patna trailed by eight points at halftime but staged a spirited comeback, only to fall short in the dying seconds.
U Mumba started strong, with solid defensive work and a multi-point raid from Anil giving them an early 3-0 lead. Patna’s star raider Ayan responded with multiple multi-point raids to keep his team in contention. Still, Mumba tightened their grip, led by Jafardanesh’s super raid and captain Sunil’s defensive brilliance, inflicting the first all-out for a 15-10 advantage. By halftime, Mumba were 22-14 ahead, as Ayan’s resistance alone kept Patna alive.
The second half saw a remarkable turnaround. Patna, fueled by Ayan’s relentless raiding, leveled the scores at 25-25 with an all-out and even took the lead at 34-33 with five minutes left. Ayan eventually finished with a sensational 21 points, while Jafardanesh’s Super 10 and Anil’s nine points ensured Mumba remained in the contest.
In the final minutes, the game hung on a knife’s edge. Jafardanesh’s late raid tied the scores, but Patna regained a slim lead. With seconds left, Ayan committed a self-out in a do-or-die raid, handing Mumba the decisive point.
The dramatic win pushed U Mumba into the top three with four victories in six games, while Patna Pirates slumped to their fourth defeat in five matches.
Match 2: Dabang Delhi vs Gujarat Giants
Dabang Delhi K.C. extended their unbeaten run in Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 with a dominant 38-28 victory over Gujarat Giants in the final match of the Vizag leg at the Vishwanadh Sports Club on Thursday.
Captain Ashu Malik was once again the star of the show, scoring 14 points and registering his fifth consecutive Super 10, while veteran defender Fazel Atrachali produced a High Five to marshal the backline.
The early exchanges were evenly poised, with Delhi holding a narrow 8-6 lead at the 10-minute mark thanks to Ashu and Ajinkya Pawar’s raiding. Gujarat’s Aryavardhan Navale offered resistance with three raid points, but costly lapses in Do-or-Die situations prevented the Giants from capitalizing.
The momentum swung firmly in Delhi’s favour midway through the first half. Sandeep Deswal’s tackle on Rakesh triggered a sequence of points as Ashu dismissed key players Shubham Kumar and Sumit before Fazel brought down Parteek Dahiya to inflict the first all-out. Delhi surged into the break leading 21-14.
The second half followed a similar pattern. Gujarat showed glimpses of revival when Rakesh earned a touch point and a Super Tackle handed them temporary relief. However, Delhi soon struck back with another all-out as Fazel, Saurabh Nandal, and Ashu combined to dismantle Gujarat’s attack. With 10 minutes remaining, Delhi were cruising at 31-21.
Although Parteek Dahiya added a few late points and Shadloui finally opened his account, Delhi’s all-round dominance ensured a comfortable 10-point win. With five wins from five matches, Dabang Delhi remain table-toppers and the team to beat this season.
