Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday disbursed Rs 680 crore under Jagananna Vidya Devena fee reimbursement scheme at Nagari in Chittoor district. The amount was credited into the bank accounts of more than 8.4 lakh women, mothers of those 9.3 lakh students. "The programme which is happening today will change the future of our children's tomorrow. Parent's poverty should not become a barrier for their children's higher studies and future," said Reddy, addressing a public meeting at Nagari. The Chief Minister promised that expenditure on higher education for eligible students will be borne by the state government, noting that the latest disbursal is for the fee reimbursement from April to June, 2023. State-owned NHPC has inked an initial pact with the Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation to set up pumped storage hydropower and other renewable energy projects in Andhra Pradesh. In the first phase, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) envisages building of two pumped hydro storage projects having a total capacity of 1,950 MW, an official statement said. These projects will be established at Kamalapadu (950 MW) and Yaganti (1,000 MW). Once ready, these projects are expected to create significant employment opportunities and boost the local economy. The projects will be implemented as a joint venture. As many as 400 vehicles were gutted in a fire at a two-wheeler showroom here early on Thursday morning, a police official said. The fire broke out around 5 am at the showroom located near the national highway (NH-16) and raged for about 90 minutes, the police official added. "The fire accident occurred when new vehicles were being unloaded from a truck which came from Chennai," Vijayawada Central ACP P Bhaskar Rao said and added that the loss could be around Rs 4 crore, as per preliminary estimates. Five fire engines were deployed to douse the blaze as a result of which as many as 200 vehicles could be saved, he sad. No police complaint has been lodged yet, he added. Police are yet to ascertain the cause of the accident, he said, adding there was no loss of life or injuries. In wake of some students from Andhra Pradesh being deported from US, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided to take up the issue with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to resolve it, said an official on Saturday. An unspecified number of students from the southern state were deported by the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) federal law enforcement agency officials recently from the American airports on landing, reports said. "Reddy is looking into this matter and will address it to the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India for resolving this at the earliest as all students have a valid USA visa for higher studiesand also keeping in view of the careers of these students of AP," said an official of the state-government body Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) in a statement without divulging details. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday disbursed Rs 561 crore to 5.1 lakh small and marginal traders and artisans under the 'Jagananna Thodu' scheme, which also included Rs 11 crore interest subvention component. He disbursed these funds at his camp office for the fourth year at a stretch under the first tranche for this year. "Nowhere in the country a programme like this, which benefits lakhs of people is happening," said Reddy. 'Jagananna Thodu' aims to shield petty traders and traditional artisans from the clutches of loan sharks for their daily working capital needs, empowering them to avoid usurious interest rates. The scheme offers Rs 10,000 interest-free loan per annum and also rewards prompt repayments by adding another Rs 1,000 to the loan amount each year, which is capped at Rs 13,000.
