China tells top global CEOs it will 'further open up'

Premier Li Keqiang vowed Thursday to further open up China's economy during a meeting with CEOs of top global companies amid simmering trade tensions with the United States. Washington and other trade partners have long complained about the uneven playing field foreign companies encounter in China, theft of intellectual property and entry barriers that allow state-backed companies to dominate crucial sectors of the economy. During the meeting in Beijing with heads of 19 multinational companies, Li pledged to make China more attractive to foreign investors. The US share market climbed for a third day on Wednesday, after the Fed left interest rates unchanged at its monetary policy meeting, dropped the word patient from its statement and said it would act as appropriate to sustain the economy. Overnight on Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 38.46 points to close at 26,504, while the S&P 500 rose 0.3% to finish its trading day stateside at 2,926.46. Jet Airways shares bounce back; zoom 19%

Shares of Jet Airways bounced back after days of massive fall and rose sharply by 19 per cent Thursday. Despite a weak opening, where the scrip hit an all-time low of Rs 27, it later pared the losses and jumped 16.16 per cent to Rs 38.45 on the BSE. On the NSE, shares zoomed 19 per cent to Rs 39.40 after dropping to an all-time low of Rs 26.55 during the morning trade. In the last 13 trading days, shares of Jet Airways have tumbled 78 per cent. A consortium of 26 bankers led by the State Bank of India earlier this week took the airline to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) to recover their dues of over Rs 8,500 crore. Jet Airways, started over 25 years ago, stopped flying on April 17 after it ran out of cash and unpaid lessors took away most of its 100-odd operational airplanes. The tribunal will begin hearing on the matter from Thursday.

Japan: Nikkei gains on dovish U.S. Fed outlook

The Japan share market advanced for second straight session on Thursday, 20 June 2019, following Wall Street's rally overnight after the U.S. Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged overnight but signalled rate cuts of as much as half a percentage point over the remainder of 2019. Total 22 subsectors out of 33 subsectors of the Topix's index advanced, with Marine Transportation, Securities & Commodities Futures, Real Estate, Glass & Ceramics Products, and Precision Instruments issues being notable gainers, while Transportation Equipment, Oil & Coal Products, and Air Transportation issues were notable losers. At closing bell, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average advanced 0.57%, or 120.90 points, to 21,454.77, while the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 0.25%, or 3.85 points, at 1,559.12.

Kolkata tops in warehousing leasing volume: Report

Among top eight cities, Kolkata has emerged as the fastest growing market in the country in warehousing leasing, a report by a global property consultancy firm said. The 'India Warehousing Market 2019 report by the Global property consultancy firm, Knight Frank, said Kolkata witnessed highest YoY surge, with 191 per cent in warehousing leasing volume of 4.7 million sqft in 2018. Kolkata was followed by Bengaluru and Hyderababd, growing at 147 per cent and 96 per cent in 2018 over 2017. E-commerce and third party logistics (3PL) providers were the biggest occupiers to have picked up warehousing space in Kolkata in 2018, the report said. Kolkata has become a major warehousing hub serving the primary requirements of the entire eastern belt of the country, Knight Frank director (Kolkata) Swapan Dutta said.
