NCP leader Nawab Malik, however, had stated that things will speed up towards the formation of a government in Maharashtra after the meeting.
On Patil's remark, Malik questioned why the BJP did not form a government earlier if it had the numbers as claimed by its Maharashtra unit chief.
"We will meet the governor tomorrow if we are given an appointment," Chavan said
A 10-member coordination committee of the Congress and NCP met here on Wednesday to hold preliminary discussions on the CMP.
"Imposition of President's Rule frustrates the wish and the mandate of the people," he said, adding that "the governor appears to have acted in quite a haste".
In the last month's assembly election, the BJP emerged as the single largest party with 105 seats followed by the Shiv Sena 56, the NCP 54 and the Congress 44.

Meanwhile, NCP chief Sharad Pawar said his party will take a decision pertaining to government formation in Maharashtra only after holding discussions with Congress.
The Sena indirectly blamed the BJP and the CM for the current political situation.
