First C-295 aircraft inducted into IAF, boosting its logistics capabilities

The first C-295 medium tactical transport aircraft was inducted into the Indian Air Force on Monday, boosting its logistics capabilities. The induction ceremony took place at the Hindan Air Force Station here in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. IAF chief Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari along with senior officials of the IAF as well as of Airbus attended the induction ceremony. Singh later took part in a 'Sarva Dharma Pooja' that was performed in the hangar to mark the induction.

Defence startup's nano drones shows potential in counter-terror operations

A defence startup founded two years ago by a team of young engineers from IIT Roorkee has developed three variants of nano drones, including a 'Kamikaze' UAV, which have application in anti-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations. Mayank Pratap Singh, the co-founder of the startup IDR, said, "This is the first time that nano drones have been developed indigenously in this country." "In just two years since the formation of our startup in 2021, we have developed three variants of nano drones that are actively aiding security forces in their efforts against insurgency and terrorism," Singh told PTI here. He said IDR Research and Development has introduced the Doot Mk1 nano drone in three specialised variants, which were showcased at the North-tech symposium. BrahMos manufacturing in Lucknow likely to begin from March: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said the work on the BrahMos missile manufacturing site in Lucknow is likely to be completed by March next year. Singh was speaking in Gomti Nagar here on the second day of the tour of his parliamentary constituency. "The work on BrahMos missile project is also going on at a fast pace and after next February-March, the missile manufacturing will begin on the soil of Lucknow," the BJP leader said. Developed by an India-Russia joint venture, the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or from land platforms. The work on the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) lab will also be completed soon, Singh said. He said there were 11 other projects in Lucknow that have been undertaken. The Swedish government said on Monday it wants to increase its defence budget by 28 per cent, putting it on track to reach the military spending target 2 per cent of gross domestic product set by the NATO alliance, which the Scandinavian country is preparing to join. India now developing own defence production tech: Ex-defence secretary

Former defence secretary Ajay Kumar on Tuesday said India is now developing its own defence production technologies independent of foreign OEMs. He said earlier domestic companies mostly relied on licensed technology transfer from foreign OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer) for producing certain goods. "Foreign OEMs put a lot of restrictions on the production process, limiting the units manufactured and sold," he said. Maintaining that the best technology never came to India, Kumar said at most the second-best could be obtained at a higher cost. Iran's foreign minister condemned Wednesday an Israeli airstrike on the international airport of the Syrian city of Aleppo, saying such attacks would eventually face retaliation. North Korea launches ballistic missiles toward sea after US flies bombers

North Korea launched two short-range ballistic missiles toward the sea on Wednesday night, its neighbours said, hours after the US flew long-range bombers for drills with its allies in a show of force against the North. The launches, the latest in the North's barrage of weapons tests since last year, came amid ongoing annual US-South Korean military exercises that North Korea regards as a rehearsal for invasion. There were no reports of damages caused by Wednesday's launches. First long-range side swing revolver launched, can hit targets up to 50 m

The country's first long-range side swing revolver 'Prabal' with "twice the range of other revolvers" was launched on Friday for civilians and arms dealers. Manufactured by the state-owned enterprise Advanced Weapons and Equipment India (AWEIL) based in Kanpur, the Prabal revolver boasts of a firing range of up to 50 metres, officiating director Rajiv Sharma said. Sharma said the .32 bore revolver is capable of accurately hitting targets up to 50 metres away. "This range is more than double that of other revolvers currently in production, establishing Prabal as a frontrunner in the field of long-range handguns," he added.
