Qatar prepared on Monday to host a summit over Israel's attack on Hamas leaders in Doha last week, hoping a group of Arab and Islamic nations will offer a way to restrain Israel as its war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip grinds on. The attack on Hamas leaders came as Qatar serves as a key mediator in an effort to reach a ceasefire in the war, something Doha insisted it will continue to do even after the assault. Since Hamas' October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, Israel has retaliated against the militant group and others in Iran's so-called Axis of Resistance, launching strikes in Iran, Lebanon, the Palestinian territories, Syria, Qatar and Yemen. That's led to a wider anger by Mideast nations already enraged by the over 64,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza, and a growing concern that the US security umbrella in the Gulf Arab states may not be enough to protect them. IndiGo flight to Doha faces tech issue; long wait for passengers onboard

Passengers of an IndiGo flight from the city to Doha waited inside the aircraft for more than four hours as the flight was delayed due to a technical issue on Sunday. Some passengers took to social media to complain about the long flight delay and that they had to wait for long. The flight was to take off on Sunday early morning. Passengers were inside the aircraft for more than four hours before they deplaned. The flight is now expected to take off later in the day from the Mumbai airport, sources in the know said. IndiGo said its flight 6E 1303, operating from Mumbai to Doha, was delayed due to a technical reason. "The aircraft tried to depart for its destination a couple of times but had to finally be called off due to the extended time lag on account of various procedural delays," the airline said in a statement. Akasa Air commences int'l operations, inaugural flight from Mumbai to Qatar

Domestic carrier Akasa Air has commenced its international operations with its inaugural overseas flight departing from Mumbai to Doha, Qatar. In a statement on Thursday, the airline said it has been granted traffic rights for three other international destinations -- Kuwait, Jeddah, and Riyadh. Akasa will be rapidly expanding its global footprint in the coming months, the statement said. Further, the airline said with its conveniently timed flight schedule, travellers from other domestic cities such as Ahmedabad, Goa, Varanasi, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Kochi, and Delhi will also have multiple connecting options for travel to and from Doha via Mumbai. Domestically, Akasa operates from a host of cities including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, among others.

Akasa Air to start international ops from March 28; first flight to Doha

Akasa Air on Friday said it will start international operations with flight services to Doha starting from March 28. "Starting 28 March 2024, Akasa Air will operate four non-stop flights a week, connecting Mumbai with Doha, enhancing air connectivity between Qatar and India," the airline said in a release. Akasa Air Founder and CEO Vinay Dube said its foray into Qatar marks the next phase of growth as it continues the journey towards becoming one of the world's top 30 airlines by the turn of this decade. Currently, the airline, which started flying in August 2022, operates 23 Boeing 737 Max aircraft.

Appeal filed against judgement: MEA on 8 Indians on death row in Qatar

An appeal has been filed against the death sentence handed down to eight former Indian Navy personnel by a Qatari court last month, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday. MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said the Indian embassy in Doha received another consular access to the detained Indians on Tuesday and that New Delhi will continue to extend all legal and consular support to them. The eight former Indian Navy personnel were on October 26 given death sentence by Qatar's Court of First Instance. India described the ruling as "deeply" shocking and vowed to explore all legal options in the case. "As we have informed earlier, the Court of First Instance of Qatar passed a judgement on October 26 in the case involving eight Indian employees of Al Dahra company," Bagchi said. IndiGo's Kannur-Doha plane diverts to Mumbai due to technical issue

An IndiGo plane flying from Kannur to Doha was diverted to the airport here on Friday due to a technical issue. The airline said the flight 6E-1715 was diverted to Mumbai as a precaution. "The operating crew noticed a technical issue and diverted the aircraft to Mumbai for necessary maintenance. The passengers are being accommodated on an alternative aircraft for their onward journey," it said in a statement. According to a senior DGCA official, the aircraft was diverted due to a hydraulic leak. Kannur is in Kerala. Details about the number of passengers onboard the aircraft was not immediately available.
