Bihar govt plans to initiate measures to boost education sector: Circular

The Bihar government will initiate a slew of measures to strengthen the education sector such as carrying out regular inspection of government schools and deduction of a day's salary for teachers found absent during the exercise, a circular said. Officials of the department will need permission directly from the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) even if they travel outside their district headquarters for appearing before a court. District Magistrates were urged to ensure inspection of all schools, at least twice every week, and take steps for deduction of a day's salary for teachers found absent during the inspection. According to a circular issued by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) on June 24, all officials and other staff at the SCERT have been asked to report for work at 9.30 in the morning and continue till 8 pm on weekdays. 1,500 children from Manipur have enrolled in Mizoram schools: Official

More than 1,500 children who have shifted along with their families from violence-hit Manipur have been enrolled in various schools across Mizoram, a senior official of the education department said. Mizoram Education Director Lalsangliana told PTI that the displaced children were given free admission in government schools. Considering their situation, the students were allowed to enrol in the schools even if they could not produce the required documents, he said. Meanwhile, Mizoram Home Commissioner and Secretary H Lalengmawia expressed hope that the state government would receive monetary assistance from the Centre to provide relief to over 11,800 internally displaced people from Manipur. NTA to reschedule CUET exam for Meghalaya students: Education Minister

Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Thursday said the National Testing Authority (NTA) has decided to reschedule CUET examination for students from the northeastern state who have been allotted centres elsewhere in the country. The Common Universities Entrance Test (CUET) is scheduled to be held on Friday. "The Union Ministry for Human Resources has directed the NTA to reschedule the exam for students from the state who were allotted CUET examination centres outside the state," Sangma told PTI. The rescheduled exam date for the affected students from Meghalaya will be announced as soon as the state administration submits to the NTA the list of the affected students, he said. The students on the list will get another opportunity to sit for the exam on a rescheduled date, he said, adding that data is being collected at the moment and the list will be submitted to the NTA at the earliest. 100,000 girls 0f 11-14 age brought back to mainstream education: Report

About one lakh adolescent girls in the 11-14 age group who dropped out of schools have been brought back to the mainstream education, government sources said on Monday. Over the years there has been a significant decline in the numbers reported by states of drop-out girls in the age group of 11-14 years, they said. In 2013-14, states and Union territories put the figure at 1.14 crore. It came down to five lakh in 2020-21, to 3.8 lakh in 2021-22 and finally to about one lakh in July last year. The drop in number reflects that many fake beneficiaries and wrong entries have been removed, the sources said. "These one lakh girls have since been brought back to the mainstream education and then the scheme (for adolescent girls) was revised," a senior official, who did not wish to be named, said. The Scheme for Adolescent Girls in the age group of 11-14 years have been discontinued and a revised scheme has been introduced and subsumed under the Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 Mission.

Faculties with PhD concentrated in top 100 institutions: Education Ministry

The faculty strength with doctoral qualification is concentrated in top 100 institutions while the remaining institutions have fewer faculty with doctoral degree, according to the Ministry of Education. As per the ministry's analysis for the eighth edition of National Institution of Ranking Framework (NIRF), the issue of less faculty members with doctoral degree is a serious "handicap" since mentorship received during the doctoral training can play a vital role in preparing the faculty for a teaching career in higher education. According to the analysis, faculty with PhD in top 100 institutions vary from a minimum of 61.06 per cent in case of colleges to the maximum of 91.60 per cent in case of management institutions. Whereas faculty with PhD in the remaining institutions vary from a minimum of 33.27 per cent in case of pharmacy institutions to the maximum of 64.29 per cent in case of universities. Large difference in students' performance across boards a challenge: Study

Large difference in performance of students from various boards, significant variation in pass percentages and no level playing field for students in terms of standard are among the challenges identified by the Ministry of Education in an assessment of classes 10 and 12 exam results. The assessment has also pointed out that top five boards (Uttar Pradesh, CBSE, Maharashtra, Bihar and West Bengal) cover about 50 per cent of students and the rest 50 per cent students are enrolled in 55 boards across the country. The study noted that the deviation in performance might be due to different patterns followed by boards and convergence of secondary and higher secondary boards into a single board in a state can help students. Over 140,000 candidates set to appear for second edition of CUET exam

The second edition of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) began on Sunday, with over 14 lakh candidates set to appear for the crucial exam for undergraduate admissions. Unlike last year, the exam is being conducted in three shifts this time. Earlier, the exam was scheduled to be held from May 21 to May 31 but the National Testing Agency (NTA) decided to extend the schedule by at least four days to accommodate the higher number of candidates.
