3-yr-old raped in Delhi's Punjabi Bagh

Delhi Police on Saturday arrested a man for allegedly raping a 3-year-old girl in Punjabi Bagh area of the national capital.The man has been identified as the father of victim's tuition teacher.Speaking to ANI, Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police said, "A 3-year-old girl was raped in Punjabi Bagh area allegedly by the father of the tuition teacher living in the victim's neighbourhood. The accused has been arrested."An FIR has been registered under the relevant section of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigation in the matter is underway.

College drinking intervention strategies need a refresh: Study

According to a recent study, contrary to what students might state, peer approval is the best indicator of the tendency for new college students to drink or smoke.This new finding can act as the key to help universities address the problems of underage or binge drinking, said Nancy Rhodes, lead author of the study published in the journal Health Education and Behavior."We need to change our intervention approach to amplify the voices of those who don't approve of this kind of behavior, such as students who are disturbed at 3 a.m. by drunk dormmates arriving home. We suggest that emphasizing the social costs of these behaviors may be a promising strategy. IIT Kharagpur to adopt Amazon Web Services Educate programme

The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur will adopt Amazon Web Services (AWS) Educate programme to help students gain cloud computing skills including hands-on experience in artificial intelligence (AI), a top official of the institute has said. 8 more held in Gujarat for playing PUBG video game on phones

Eight more people, including seven college students, were arrested in Gujarat Friday for playing PUBG video game on their mobile phones despite a ban on it, police said. The latest arrests were made from Ahmedabad and Himmatnagar town and came days after 10 people, including college students, were held for the same offence in Rajkot. All the eight arrested persons were booked under Indian Penal Code section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and later granted bail at the police stations concerned, the police said. One of them, a 20-year-old man, was arrested from Rakhial area here for allegedly playing PUBG game on his mobile phone, said an official of the Rakhial police station. JNU rubbishes student union's charge of 300% hike in prospectus fee

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Friday rubbished the claims of its students' union of a 300 per cent hike in prospectus fee, saying the fee remains the same as last year. The students' union had protested on Thursday and said the varsity had increased the prospectus fee by 300 per cent, closed down BA lateral entry programme in School of Languages, and de-linked MPhil-PhD programme which was an integrated programme. In a statement, the varsity said it was "aghast at the widespread misinformation" "being circulated by a handful of self-styled student leaders of JNU" on the entrance examination. "The messages that are being posted on various social media speak of a 300 per cent fee hike in the application form for the JNU entrance test. Nothing could be farther from the truth. There is no hike in the application fee and it remains same as the last year's application fee," the varsity said. DU trying to contact CBSE to use their database for getting students' marksheets

The Delhi University is trying to contact the CBSE to use their database for getting students' marksheets and certificates so that they do not have to submit them during the time of admissions, the varsity said. The admission process for 2019-2020 academic session will tentatively begin on April 15, they said. Registration for all undergraduate, postgraduate, M.Phil and PhD courses will begin on April 15 and end on May 7. The varsity portal will reopen on May 20 for two weeks for updating marks and courses. The ECA and Sports trials will start from May 20 and will be de-linked from admission cut-off lists, which means the ECA trials may start before the cut-offs are announced. The pass percentage of class 10 fell from 92.44 per cent in 2016-17 to 68.9 per cent in 2017-18 for the government schools after CBSE board examination was reintroduced, a report released on Friday said. It also highlighted that around 40 per cent of AAP MLAs did not raise a single issue on education between March 2017 to January 2018. "Pass percentage of class 10 fell from 92.44 per cent in 2016-17 to 68.90 in 2017-18 for state government schools after CBSE board examination pattern was reintroduced," it said. The report titled "State of School Education in Delhi" by Praja Foundation, an NGO working in the sector highlighted that 40 per cent of AAP MLAs did not raise a single issue on education from March 2017 to January 2018. "Out of this, 11 MLAs did not raise even a single issue on education in the last three years (February 2015 to January 2018). "In MCD, 49 councillors did not raise even a single issue on education in 2017-18 and only 11 per cent of total councillors in 2017-18 .

30 students fall ill after having breakfast in Telangana School

More than 30 students of Telangana Minorities Residential Girls School fell ill allegedly after having breakfast provided by the school on Thursday.The students were shifted to Asra hospital for treatment where their condition is said to be stable. A few of them have been discharged as well. "We received information that few students have fallen ill after having breakfast at Telangana Minorities Residential Girl's School. Immediately our local police personnel reached the spot and shifted students to Asra hospital for treatment," Amber Kishore Jha, DCP, South Zone said.Telangana Minorities Residential Schools were established 'as a part of minority development'.Similar incidents have been reported from other parts of the country as well in recent past.Around 40 students of a school in Karnataka's Koppal fell ill after consuming mid-day meal. Mizoram Assembly passes bill for supplying cadavers to medical

Mizoram Assembly Thursday passed a bill to facilitate the supply of cadavers to the medical college in the state. Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana introduced the Mizoram Anatomy Bill, 2019, and it was passed unanimously. Lalthangliana said the bill, after enactment, would facilitate availability of bodies for the Mizoram Institute of Medical Education and Research (MIMER) at Falkawn, about 20 kilometres from here. Cadavers are required by medical colleges for the purpose of anatomical examination and dissection. An MIMER official said it could manage with eight cadavers a year and that would cost the institute Rs 8 lakh. Classes have started at MIMER from August last year for the academic session 2018-19 with the capacity of 100 students intake annually.

8 killed in Brazil school shooting

At least eight people were killed after two armed men wearing hoods fired indiscriminately in a school near Sao Paulo on Wednesday.The gunmen entered the State School Raul Brasil in Suzano town, situated 70 km east of Sao Paulo and opened fire at students and staff members, according to the Sao Paulo government, CNN reported.Over 10 people sustained injuries in the attack, according to local media. Police said that the two shooters killed themselves.The Sao Paulo government informed that six students and two school officials died in the shooting.
