SBI signs MoU with Nepal's National Banking Institute for human resource development

State Bank of India has signed an MoU with Kathmandu-based National Banking Institute (NBI) for the development of human resources of the latter, the country's largest lender said Wednesday. SBI signed the three-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) with NBI to establish a mutually beneficial strategic alliance for development of NBI's human resources by imparting education, training and research, SBI said in a statement. Under the MoU, the strategic training unit of SBI will impart education, training and development to facilitate transformation of NBI's HR department. An apex banking academy of Nepal, National Banking Institute is already in tie ups with leading institutions in India including IIMs, MDI, ISB, it said.

Decision to okay School Management Committee funds a game changer: Kejriwal

Terming the AAP dispensation's decision to approve School Management Committee funds for improvement of government schools a "game changer", Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday claimed it would reduce red-tapeism. The Delhi government on Tuesday approved the School Management Committee funds under which it will get at least Rs 5 lakh annually per shift (morning and evening). "This will prove a game changer in improving schools. Now schools won't need funds and approvals from sectt. This will cut red tape n enable schools to take their own decisions (sic)," Kejriwal tweeted. According to the government, the funds for the schools running in two shifts will be Rs 10 lakh (five lakh for each shift SMC). Earlier, the amount to be given would depend on the number of students in the school.

Segregation case: NDMC suspends school in-charge; act was unpardonable says Commissioner

The head of an NDMC-run school in Wazirabad was suspended Wednesday for "segregating students" into Hindu and Muslim sections, the Commissioner of the civic body said here, while denouncing his action as "unimaginable" and "unpardonable". "I was apprised of the allegations by our officials. We decided to probe the accusations, and unfortunately they were found to be true. We have suspended the head of the school with immediate effect and initiated major penalty charge sheet against him," North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) Commissioner Madhup Vyas told PTI. The Commissioner said the conduct of the official was "bizarre" and "unpardonable" and "goes against the grain of our pluralistic society". "During our probe, it was found that it was school-in-charge only, who had initiated this segregation. The HRD Ministry Wednesday asked for a report over allegations that Hindu and Muslim students were allegedly being segregated into different sections at an NDMC school, even as the Delhi government ordered a probe into the matter. According to a media report published Wednesday, a section of teachers employed by the NDMC alleged that a primary school in Wazirabad was segregating Hindu and Muslim students in different sections. "The matter is very serious. It may damage the social fabric of the country. I have asked the director of the Education Department to enquire into the matter and submit the report by Friday," Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said. "We haven't received any complaint yet but have read about it in media reports. I have asked for a report," HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters. Cabinet approves permanent campuses of Tirupati, Berhampur IISERs

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved the establishment and operationalisation of permanent campuses of the two new Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) at Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh) and Berhampur (Odisha).The total cost likely to be incurred is Rs. 3074.12 crore (Non-Recurring: Rs.2366.48 crore and Recurring: 707.64 crore).Creation of two posts of Registrar, one in each IISER in Level 14 of 7lh CPC has also been approved by the Cabinet.The total cost is assessed at Rs. 3074.12 crore, out of which 2366.48 crore will be spent for construction of permanent campuses of these institutesBoth the IISERs will construct an area of 1,17,000 sq. m which will have complete infrastructural facilities for 1855 students in each IISER.The construction of permanent campuses of these institutes shall be completed by December 2021.The IISERs will provide top quality science education at the Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate levels, PHDs ...

Cabinet approves establishment of National Council for Vocational Education and Training

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the merger of the existing regulatory institutions in the skills space - National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) and the National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) into the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET).The newly-constituted NCVET will regulate the functioning of entities engaged in vocational education and training, both long-term and short-term and establish minimum standards for the functioning of such entities. IBM India, NITI Aayog co-design programme to skill students in new-age tech

Tech giant IBM Wednesday said it has partnered with NITI Aayog to offer internship programme to top performing students selected by the Atal Innovation Mission. Over 40 high school students will go through a two-week paid internship at the IBM Bengaluru campus where they will be equipped with the skills in areas like artificial intelligence, Internet-of-Things, cybersecurity, cloud computing and blockchain, IBM said in a statement. Ballia college ordered shut amid allegations of 'ban' signing Vande Matram

A day after a magisterial probe was ordered to investigate an alleged ban on singing Vande Matram and chanting "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" at a government-aided inter college in Ballia district, authorities have closed it indefinitely. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved establishment and operationalisation of two new permanent campuses of the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Tirupati and Behrampur. "The construction of the two campuses shall be completed by December, 2021. The total cost likely to be incurred is Rs 3074.12 crore," an official statement said. Scuffle between lawyers, AIIMS students: Cross FIRs lodged

Cross FIRs were lodged following a scuffle between a group of lawyers and AIIMS students at the hospital campus over playing in the premises, police said Tuesday. The incident took place on October 2, they said. In their complaint, the MBBS students alleged that the lawyers gained "unauthorised" entry into the playground area of the restricted hostel premises and forced the students playing there to vacate the ground for them.
