Tribal student bodies call for economic blockade from Oct 9

Three tribal student bodies in the state Thursday called for an 'economic blockade' for five days beginning October 9 as the authorities have "failed" to resolve the crisis in the Manipur University, a statement issued by them said. The three tribal student bodies - All Manipur Tribal Students Union (ATSUM), Kuki Students Organisation GHq (KSO) and All Naga Students Association (ANSAM) - took the decision to call for the economic blockade at the meeting here, the statement said. They demanded immediate restoration of normalcy in the Manipur University within a weeks time. JNUSU calls for university strike tmrw

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union has called for a university strike on October 5 to protest against the administration for not inviting them for the academic council meeting, the students' union said. The JNU administration remained tight-lipped on the issue. The JNUSU alleged it has been debarred from the academic council meeting, "where the dubious proposal of online entrance examination is being sought to be imposed". "The online entrance examination is a policy intended to destroy, dismantle and shut down JNU. Last year's admission data with details of reservation are also being withheld by the vice-chancellor," they alleged. RSS sends legal notice to TMC over comments on Islampur

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has sent a legal notice to Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee for "defaming" the organisation in the death of two students in a clash in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district, party sources said Thursday. The legal notice to Chatterjee, who is also the state education minister, is dated October 1. The TMC leadership had claimed that it was RSS-BJP that had hatched a conspiracy to create disturbances in the state. "The TMC has made baseless, defamatory and motivated allegations against our organisation. We have sent a legal notice to the TMC. DUSU prez is not TN university student, says varsity

A Tamil Nadu-based university has told the state government that DUSU President Ankit Baisoya, at the centre of a row over producing a fake certificate in the varsity's name for securing admission in Delhi University, was not its student. A senior government official said the Vellore-based Thiruvalluvar University has written to the Tamil Nadu Higher Education Department that the Akhil Bharatiya Vidya Parishad (ABVP) leader was neither enrolled in the varsity nor in any of its constituent or affiliated colleges. "Yes, they have given in writing," he said when asked if the university has informed the Higher Education Department that the student leader had produced a fake certificate and that it was not from the university. Class 7 male student accused of bullying girl students

Parents of some girl students of a private school in Lutyens' Delhi have alleged that their daughters were being bullied by a class 7 male student, police sources said Thursday. However, no formal complaint has been made to the police yet. According to the sources, the girl students have claimed that the boy, admitted under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category, used to throw water on them and even enter girls' washrooms. The parents approached the school administration on Thursday and even the police were called but no formal complaint was given, the sources added. Education minister of different countries attend 'happiness class' in Delhi school

Education ministers of Afghanistan and the UAE were among other dignitaries who attended a "happiness class" Thursday at a Delhi government school with Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Education ministers of different countries and states were in the national capital to attend the Asian Summit on Education and Skills organised by the Delhi government. "The delegation attended a happiness class at Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya in Rouse Avenue and was astounded by the cleanliness of the school, the dynamism of the teachers, the responsiveness of the students and the impact of Happiness Curriculum," an official statement said. "The group spent time interacting with the students of class 6 and 7 on what is happiness for them and how do they feel about the happiness classes," it added. The happiness curriculum, introduced by the Delhi government in July, involves a daily 45-minute class beginning with mindfulness, followed by a story-telling and activities session.

Odisha govt to restructure cadre of primary school teachers

Odisha government Thursday decided to restructure the cadre of primary school teachers and head masters following which the agitating teachers called off their protest. According to a statement released by the Chief Minister's Office, the primary school teachers will get at least three promotions during their service period. The move will benefit around 72,563 primary teachers across the state, it said.
