Over 750 JNU students, faculty, staff take part in Yoga Day celebrations
More than 750 students, faculty and staff members of the Jawaharlal Nehru University participated in the fourth International Day of Yoga celebration today, according to statement from the varsity. The celebrations spanned between June 19 and June 21. On June 19, an essay writing competition on yoga was organised at the Convention Centre of the university. "There were a total of 48 participants in two separate categories - children and youth. On June 20, a lecture was delivered by Yogi Dr Ved Vrat Alok on the importance of yoga in day-to-day life followed by chanting of mantras and meditation," the statement said. Today, a large number of faculty members, students, staff, alumni and their family members gathered at the JNU campus for the celebrations. JNU vice-chancellor Professor M Jagadesh Kumar urged the participants to make yoga a part of their daily routine as it helps one realize their inner potential. "JNU is fit and India is also fit," he said.
Kindergarten student dead in Himachal accident
A kindergarten student was killed and 12 others were injured on Thursday when their overcrowded private school bus skidded off the road and fell into a 100-foot-deep gorge in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district, police said.
HRD nod to inter-university yoga centre in S-VYASA varsity
The Ministry of Human Resource Development today approved setting up an inter-university yoga centre at Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana in Bengaluru. The announcement was made by Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on the fourth International Yoga Day. "I have sanctioned Inter University Centre for Yoga in S-VYASA University for Yoga in Bengaluru. #UGC accepted the recommendation of the committee appointed for this purpose," Javadekar said in a tweet. 'Need to raise educational standards for the majority of students'

SC refuses to allow CBSE appeal in NEET case
The Supreme Court today refused to allow CBSE's appeal against a Bombay High Court order asking it to give proportionate marks to a batch of candidates, who lost 30 minutes due to the invigilator's fault during the NEET undergraduate exam 2018. A vacation bench of justices S Abdul Nazeer and Indu Malhotra directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to comply with the high court's order within 10 days. The board had yesterday moved the apex court against the validity of the June 15 high court order regarding the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test which was held on May 6 for admission to MBBS course. The high court had directed the CBSE to apply the formula suggested by the apex court and award additional proportionate marks to 24 students who had appeared in examination at Nagpur in Maharashtra but were not allowed by the invigilator to write the exam for the stipulated three hours. KV school show-caused for flouting Odisha govt order to extend
Odisha government today issued a show cause notice to the authorities of a Kendriya Vidyalaya school here for allegedly flouting its order to extend summer vacation due to the ongoing heat wave condition in the state. Special Relief Commissioner(SRC) B P Sethi issued the notice to the principal of KV-1 school after receiving information that the central government institution had reopened despite the state government's order to extend the summer vacation till June 25 due to the heat wave condition. "It has come to the notice of the government that in utter violation of the direction of the state government, your school continues to hold classes. As a result, young children (students) have been compelled to travel in severe hot and humid condition and attend the classes in such situation. Review meeting highlights poor performance of govt schools
The school education department in Nagaland has expressed concern over the poor performance of government school students in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education. Of the 294 government schools, comprising 41 government higher secondary schools (GHSS) and 253 government high schools (GHS) in the state, students from 233 schools appeared for the examinations this year. Twenty-seven government schools recorded nil pass percentage while 12 schools tasted hundred per cent success in the pass percentage of the HSLC exams 2018. The pass percentage in the government schools was 40.77 per cent, registering a decrease of 1.83 per cent than that of last year, Principal Director of the department, Smita Sarangi said at the review meeting yesterday. Yoga is the best way to deal with stress, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said today and expressed happiness that over 75 lakh people across the state joined him in the International Yoga Day celebrations. Students aspiring for admission to undergraduate courses of the Delhi University today heaved a sigh of relief after they could smoothly complete their formalities, a day after several applicants faced difficulties during the process. Yesterday, which was day one of admissions, the Delhi University's server came under severe pressure and the DigiLocker, a government-owned public cloud storage where certificates and documents were stored, was not integrated with the varsity portal. Sanskrit to be used for future supercomputers : Hegde
Union Minister of State for Skill Development Ananta Kumar Hegde today said Sanskrit was going to be the coding language for future supercomputers. Sanskrit could be the better language for computer algorithm design, Hegde told reporters after delivering an address on skill development at Calcutta Chambers of Commerce. "While we are becoming too dependent on English in our country, we become unaware of the fact that eminent scientists of the world are coming to the view that Sanskrit is the language for future supercomputers," he said, adding that in many European universities Sansktrit was being taught again.
