Former dean of Rajkot-based Saurashtra University's homoeopathy department and two trustees of a city-based homoeopathy college affiliated to the varsity were today arrested in connection with an alleged fake mark sheet scam, police said. An inquiry panel set up by the varsity purportedly found that several students had secured admission directly in the second year of the BHMS course in three colleges affiliated to the Saurashtra University (SU) since 2012 on the basis of the "fake" mark-sheets. The accused Amitabh Joshi, a former dean, and Deepak Dangar and Janak Mehta, both trustees of Dangar Homoeopathy College, have been accused of issuing fake mark sheets of the first-year course by taking money from students so that they can secure admission directly in the second year of the four-and-half-year (BHMS) course, Additional DCP Harshad Mehta said. Over three lakh students have registered for undergraduate (UG) courses in Delhi University (DU) till today, an official said. The Delhi University threw open its admission portal for aspirants of various undergraduate courses on May 15. The registration for UG programmes will end at 6 pm on June 7. The varsity has, for now, announced a total of five cut-offs with the notification for the first cut-off scheduled to be issued on June 19. According to an official from the university, 3,42,611 aspirants registered on the portal. Out of these, 2,42,439 candidates registered for merit-based courses while the rest of the applications were for entrance-based courses. Total male applicants are 155705, female 133090 and other applicants 80, he said, adding that around 215867 of the applicants have made payments. The initiative is part of plans to position the state as the largest supplier of Blockchain technologists in the country, a official statement said here. A girl student of class three was killed and three others were injured when a bus of a private school overturned at Chattiwind locality on the outskirts of Amritsar today, the police said. The incident occurred when the students were being dropped back home after the school, SHO of Chattiwind police station Gurwinder Singh said. He said the bus overturned after the driver lost control over the vehicle. Union School Education Secretary Anil Swarup today said the central government would set up pre-school educational units and the NCERT was preparing a curriculum for them. "There is a preparatory work to be done before a child enters into class one. We are studying how pre-school will work in the government domain. What approach needs to be taken," Swarup said here. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) was coming out with a curriculum in this regard by this year, he told reporters on the sidelines of a session on pre-school policy organised by the ASSOCHAM. The Delhi High Court has directed the AAP government not to give effect to its decision barring several private unaided schools in the national capital from hiking fees with retrospective effect to implement the 7th Central Pay Commission's (CPC) recommendations. Justice Sunil Gaur said the interim increase in fees permitted last year by the Delhi government, to implement the 7th CPC, was "unreasonably withdrawn with retrospective effect" by the April 13, 2018 order of its Directorate of Education (DoE). The court said its interim order will be in place till the next date of hearing on July 31 of the plea moved by a private unaided schools association alleging that the Delhi government was delaying the implementation of the 7th CPC. The court noted that guidelines for implementation of 7th CPC recommendations in private unaided recognized schools issued by DoE in October last year as well as three orders of the department during the same period permitted hike in fees. More than one-third of the Chinese population suffers from nearsightedness, with youth below 19 accounting for a large proportion, according to an official data. The number of people with myopia in China has reached 450 million, which accounts for one third to half of the population, the Global Times reported citing data released by the China's National Health Commission. Up to 80 per cent Chinese teenagers suffer from short sightedness. The World Health Organisation has said that China has 600 million people with myopia and more than 70 per cent of students in the country's secondary schools are near-sighted.
