To better the quality of teaching in the country, Human Resource Development Ministry has launched an initiative to train teachers using digital platform.Using the Massive Open Online Courses platform SWAYAM, the central government intends to update the teaching technique of 1.5 million higher education faculty with focus on new and emerging trends.To achieve this, in the first phase, 75 discipline-specific National Resource Centres (NRCs) have been identified to prepare online training material and keep the teachers abreast of latest developments in their disciplines through the online refresher course.A number of institutions such as Central, State and Open Universities, National Institutes for Technical Teachers Training, IITs, IIITs, NITs and other have been notified as NRCs in this regard.
A government school teacher was dismissed from service for allegedly sexually harassing a student, an official statement said today. The Department of Elementary Education dismissed the accused after it received various complaint against him for past some time. It was found that the said teacher was allegedly misbehaving with the students and sexually harassing the female students for past some time, an official release said. The police have registered a case against the accused under relevant section of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The Kerala government today directed all Collectors and district police chiefs to arrange help desks at all major railway and bus stations to provide necessary help to candidates appearing for the May 6 NEET medical entrance test. This is to help thousands of students appearing for the test in centres in other districts and from outside the state, a government press release said. Revenue and police authorities should ensure them hindrance free travel and other facilities, the release said. For those who need accommodation, authorities shall provide it with the support of local people, it said.

The government has identified 75 National Resource Centres to update the curriculum of different fields of studies and provide online refresher training to the teachers, an official statement said on Friday.
Every student from Tamil Nadu who travels to other states to appear for the NEET will be given train fare in addition to monetary assistance of Rs 1,000 per candidate, Chief Minister K Palaniswami said here today. He said these students and one attendant travelling with him or her would be provided second class train fare and given an assistance of Rs 1,000 towards other expenditure. Palaniswami said the direction was given following reports that those allotted centres outside Tamil Nadu were facing difficulties. Students could get the train fare and Rs 1,000 assistance from the district Chief Education Officer through their school either before or after their journey to write NEET, he said. Palaniswami's announcement comes a day after PMK demanded that the state government bear the travel expenses of students who have been allotted centres in other States. A section of students, about 200 from Tamil Nadu, have been allotted centres in Kerala and Rajasthan to write NEET, .

"When the education policy came in 1835, Lord Macualay had said that India's people will remain Indians in their looks and blood but their thinking will be Brirish. Whenever we escalate talks about working for the mother toungue, things don't move forward," he said here while addressing the gathering at an award function at the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). "Who were the leaders in the country who did not let Hindi get its importance? Soon, a new education policy is coming. It is very unfortunate that people think low of themselves if they don't know English. Like you can't change your mother, you can't change your language also," he said.
