The Centre has started a training programme to bring madrasa teachers of the country to the mainstream, Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said today. He was speaking at an event to mark the culmination of a residential training programme for 40 madrasa teachers here. "For the first time, such a campaign has been launched to link madrasa teachers with the mainstream education system. As the Assam Women's University student's indefinite strike for a permanent vice-chancellor entered its 23rd day today, state Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told the assembly that there is no mention of the post in the Assam Women's University Act, 2013. The state government has not violated the act as there is no mention of the post of vice-chancellor in it and regular teachers were not appointed as no advertisements were given for the purpose, he said. The Delhi government has warned all private schools in the national capital against asking for the Aadhaar number of children while admitting them in entry level classes under the economically weaker section or the disadvantaged group categories and refusing admission to such students on the grounds of distance range. "Private unaided recognised schools are once directed to ensure and facilitate the admission of the selected candidates of EWS/DG Category in the respective class without creating any hindrance," the Directorate of Education (DoE) said in a letter to the schools. "The schools should not ask for Aadhaar number of the children and income certificate from those EWS category parents who submit copy of BPL/Food Security Card issued by Food and Civil Supply Department," it said. The Maharashtra government said today that it will consider bringing in a law to check copying by students during exams and will also take strict action against those who leak the question papers. School education minister Vinod Tawde made an announcement to this effect in the Legislative Council while replying to a debate, initiated by Vikram Kale (NCP), on the spate of incidents of copying in the recently held exams of Classes 10 and 12 in the state. The minister also warned of stringent action against the officials who change the designated examination centres at the last minute. The Maharashtra State Board every year conducts the exams of Classes 10 and 12, also referred to as the Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations, respectively. The Centre had sanctioned Rs 126. 72 crore for setting up the first and only medical college in Mizoram but the state was yet to receive the entire amount, state health minister Lal Thanzara informed the assembly today. Replying to a question from Dr K. Beichhua of the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF), Lal Thanzara said that of the sanctioned amount, the state government was yet to receive an allocation to the tune of Rs 24.7 crore. He said that the expenditure incurred for establishment of the medical college, to be named as Mizoram Institute of Medical Education and Research (MIMER), till date was Rs 18.06 crore. The MIMER was being established at Falkawn, near Aizawl and 90 per cent of the civil work such as construction of the building and approach roads, had been completed, he said.
