Six people, including the superintendent of an examination centre, have been booked for distributing second papers of two subjects on the day of Uttar Pradesh class 12 board exam for first papers, the police said today. According to the district inspector of schools, instead of first papers of biology and commerce, questions of second papers of the two subjects, exams for which were to be held on March 7, were distributed among the students. The UP board authorities have been informed about the incident. A case has been registered against the six people, the police said, adding they have been shifted from the centre with immediate effect.

Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) has sought a report from Pune rural police in the alleged incident of "strip-searching" of two girl students by two women guards at a school near here to deter copying during HSC examination. "Taking cognisance of the case, we have written to the Pune rural police seeking a report about the incident," said MSCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar. She said the incident needs to be probed properly. The alleged incident, which occurred during the exams held between February 21-28 at the Gurukul School of the Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT), had caused an outrage among parents. A circular issued by the office of Dean of Students of JNU notified revision of charges of mess admission dues, guest and guest meal charges, fine for late payment and charges for extra items. Dated February 27 and applicable retrospectively from January 1, the circular said, "Under Mess Admission Dues category, the refundable mess security has been increased to Rs 4,500 from the earlier Rs 2,700, while the establishment charges per semester will be Rs 1,100 from Rs 550. Expressing concern over the poor condition of schools in Uttarakhand, a child protection panel today asked the state government to enforce guidelines issued by the Centre for safety of children in schools. The Uttarakhand Commission for Protection of Child Rights (UCPCR) also suggested a list of measures to be taken immediately to improve the safety of children in state-run schools, especially those in the hills. "Even 18 years after Uttarakhand got statehood, appalling conditions prevail in state-run primary and middle schools especially in the hills. The BJP government in Rajasthan has decided to implement a dress code in state-run colleges from academic year 2018-19, drawing protest from opposition Congress which dubbed it as an attempt to "saffronise" the institutions. The commissionerate college education has shot off a letter to principals of government colleges asking them to decide the colour of the dress for boys and girls and submit it by March 12. Dress code for boys includes shirt, trousers, sweater (winters), shoes, socks and belt. For girls, it will be salwar suit, dupatta, sweater or cardigan (winters), saree, shoes/sandals and socks. There is a shortfall of over 16,000 class rooms in state-run primary schools in Gujarat due to implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act a few years ago, the Legislative Assembly was told today. This situation has arisen due to implementation of the Right to Education Act in the state some years back, as per a written reply submitted by Minister of State for Primary and Higher Education Vibhavari Dave during Question Hour. Out of the total 33 districts in Gujarat, tribal-dominated Dahod tops the list with a shortfall of 1,416 classrooms, followed by Banaskantha (1,104), Anand (856), Panchmahal (835), and Sabarkantha (828). The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered closure of all educational institutions in Kashmir till Wednesday after the firing incident in Shopian district, an official said today. The state Board of School Education (BOSE) has postponed all the exams scheduled for March 6 and 7. All the schools and colleges in the valley will remain closed tomorrow and day after as a precautionary measure, an official of the Education Department said. The schools and colleges, which were to open today after two-month-long winter break, were closed today due to separatists-sponsored strike against the killings. The HRD Ministry has invited suggestions from various stakeholders for "rationalising" the school syllabus to reduce burden on students. The suggestions can be submitted through a window provided on the HRD Ministry's website till April 6. "There is an urgent need to rationalise the school curriculum because the objective of education is to prepare a good human being. Along with academic education, life skills, experiential learning, physical education and creative skills are needed," HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said. The Delhi government has directed all schools in the national capital not to deploy any male guard or sanitation worker in their primary wing. The directive comes as an update in the "check on safety measures" guidelines issued by the government in November last year amid increased concerns about safety of children in schools in the wake of incidents of assault on students. "It has been observed that male guards or sanitation workers are not to be deployed in the primary wing in schools. No male guard or sanitation worker should be seen nearby toilet area in the primary wing," the Directorate of Education (DoE) said in a communication to schools.
