JSPL completes 250-ton BOF at Angul steel plant

Jindal Steel and Power Ltd today said it has successfully completed a 250-ton basic oxygen furnace (BOF), marking the completion of the company's 6-MTPA integrated steel project at Angul in Odisha. With the completion of the new steel-making facility, JSPL will utilise the full capacity of its 4-MTPA mega blast furnace, commissioned in August this year. "With the successful completion of the BOF today, the Angul Steel Complex will achieve optimal efficiencies in terms of cost and operation," said Naveen Jindal, chairman, JSPL. The BOF will produce 3 million ton of high-grade steel per annum. JSPL said it has deployed the innovative Dry Gas Cleaning System, which is superior in terms of environment-friendliness as compared to the Wet Gas Cleaning Plant. Bridge collapses in MP's Jhabua district; none hurt

A bridge collapsed near Alsiyakhedi village (Ramnagar) in Madhya Pradesh's Jhabua district today, disrupting vehicular movement on Jhabua-Ratlam road, around 40 kms from here, police said. Superintendent of Police Mahesh Chandra Jain said the bridge, located on a rivulet which is dry now, caved in this afternoon. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident as there was no vehicle plying on the bridge at the time of the incident. "Steps are being taken to prepare a diversion to enable vehicles to pass till the bridge is repaired," he said. Following the incident, a large number of vehicles, mainly trucks and four-wheelers, remained stranded on both sides of the road, an eyewitness said. Several villages and towns of Jhabua and Ratlam remained cut off after the collapse. There is another state highway that connects villages and towns located on both sides of the bridge.

USD 318 mn World Bank loan for Tamil Nadu irrigation projects

The World Bank will provide a USD 318 million loan for modernisation of irrigation projects in Tamil Nadu and help small and marginal farmers improve water management and adopt climate resilient techniques. The project will also help increase market opportunities for small and marginal farmers. A tripartite agreement has been signed today between the central government, the World Bank and the Tamil Nadu government, an official statement said. "About 500,000 farmers, of which a majority are small and marginal, are expected to benefit from improved and modernised tank irrigation systems," it said. Under the Tamil Nadu Irrigated Agriculture Modernisation Project, about 4,800 irrigation tanks and 477 check dams across 66 sub-basins will be rehabilitated and modernised to deliver bulk water to irrigation systems in the state. World Bank signs USD 318 mn loan agreement to support climate resilient agriculture

The Government of India, along with the Government of Tamil Nadu signed a USD 318 million loan agreement with the World Bank on Tuesday, for the Tamil Nadu Irrigated Agriculture Modernization Project to promote climate resilient agriculture technologies, improve water management practices, and increase market opportunities for small and marginal farmers.With the signing of the agreement, it is likely that about 500,000 farmers, of which a majority are small and marginal, are expected to benefit from improved and modernized tank irrigation systems.The project will rehabilitate and modernize about 4,800 irrigation tanks and 477 check dams, spread across 66 sub-basins, in delivering bulk water to irrigation systems."Tamil Nadu, being a water-stressed state, continues to experience water shortages which are expected to further exacerbate in the future. JSPL's steel output capacity hits 11.6 MTPA

Private sector Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) today said its production capacity has reached 11.6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) after the completion of a 3 MTPA basic oxygen furnace at the company's Angul steel plant in Odisha. The installation of 3 MTPA basic oxygen furnace (BOF) follows the commissioning of the company's 4 MTPA blast furnace at Angul in August 2017. "The completion of 3 MTPA (BOF) at JSPL's 6 million tonne per annum (MTPA) integrated steel plant at Angul, Odisha has taken the company's overall steel-making capacity to 11.6 MTPA," JSPL said in a statement. The integrated plant, which comprises a 4 MTPA blast furnace and a 2 MTPA DRI (directly reduced iron) plant, is JSPL's single largest investment, it said. China building B'desh's first eco-friendly thermal plant

A Chinese consortium has started the construction of Bangladesh's first eco-friendly thermal power plant with ultra modern clean coal technology in central Bangladesh.The plant is being constructed near a sea port in Payra town in Patuakhali district of Bangladesh. It has two units - both of which are expected to be commissioned in April and October 2019 respectively, Xinhua reported.In March 2016, Bangladesh signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with the consortium of two Chinese firms. Uttar Pradesh moves to get all milk plants running by 2018-end

The Uttar Pradesh government is pushing ahead with a plan to put all the milk plants of the state in the running mode by 2018-end. "While existing plants would be renovated, 11 new plants are also on the cards," said Laxmi Narain Chaudhary, Uttar Pradesh Minister for Dairying, Wakf, Minorities welfare and Culture. By the end of 2018, Chaudhary added, all the dairy plants will become functional. An ultra modern dairy unit with a capacity of 3 lakh litres daily is coming up in Mathura. With an investment of Rs 200 crore, it would be better than Amul dairy in Gujarat, he claimed while interacting with reporters in Mathura yesterday. The facility will produce butter, milk, butter milk, ghee, cream, sweets, powdered milk and the like. Last Deepawali, the existing Mathura dairy had produced 27 tonnes of pure ghee sweets. Suzlon, associates commission offshore met station

Wind energy solutions provider Suzlon Energy and its associates have commissioned their first operational offshore met station in the Arabian Sea. "Suzlon along with its associates, under the guidance from National Institute of Ocean Technology and approvals through National Institute of Wind Energy has installed their first operational offshore LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) based wind measurement station in the Arabian Sea," Suzlon said in a BSE filing. The station will be located at southwest of Jakhau port in Kutch, Gujarat. The company said it is actively working on offshore wind energy technology and has initiated techno-commercial feasibility study. The met station is expected to collect data for a period of two years, it added.
