The Delhi University is a great institution and India has been "very profoundly influenced" by its work, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said Friday. Speaking at an event, Puri said the institution has a great history and is a part of India's development. He was the chief guest at the university's first alumni meet. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Arts in History from Hindu College, University of Delhi. "The institution with which I am associated has a great history. Hindu College's association with the freedom movement is well-documented. So in many ways, the Delhi University is privileged to be part of India's development, not only in development sense in terms of academic development in terms of social movement," he said. "The Delhi University is a great institution, it has a great history. India has been very profoundly influenced by the work of this university," Puri said. Hardeep Singh Puri confident of meeting 20% ethanol blending target in FY25

Oil minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday exuded confidence of meeting the target of supplying petrol mixed with 20 per cent ethanol by 2025, five years earlier than the previously planned roll-out in 2030. Petrol blended with 20 per cent ethanol was rolled out at select petrol pumps in 11 states and Union Territories in February as part of a programme to increase use of biofuels to cut emissions as well as dependence on foreign exchange-draining imports. At present, 10 per cent ethanol is blended in petrol (10 per cent ethanol, 90 per cent petrol) and the government is looking to double this quantity by 2025. "I am sure we will be able to supply 20 per cent ethanol blended petrol by next (fiscal) year," he said. India saved as much as Rs 41,500 crore in forex outgo from 10 per cent blending besides benefiting the farmers, he said at a biofuels conference here. Puri said India achieved blending of 10 per cent ethanol in petrol in June 2022, five months ahead of the schedule. "We

Parl logjam can end with Rahul's unambiguous apology for his remarks: Puri

An unambiguous apology from Rahul Gandhi can end the logjam in Parliament, Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Monday as he slammed the Congress leader for his recent remarks in the United Kingdom. Addressing a press conference, the BJP leader categorically rejected Gandhi's claims on the prevailing situation in India and urged him to clarify if he was "playing to an agenda. During his interactions in the United Kingdom recently, Gandhi alleged that the structures of Indian democracy are under attack and there is a "full-scale assault" on the country's institutions. His remarks triggered a massive political row, with the BJP accusing him of maligning India on foreign soil and seeking foreign interventions and the Congress hitting back, citing instances of Prime Minister Modi raising internal politics abroad. If any individual goes outside the country, he has the freedom to speak. But along with that freedom of speech comes the need to have a sense of responsibility, Puri ...

Implementation of schemes in UP accelerated since Adityanath took over: Min

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Sunday said the implementation of central schemes in Uttar Pradesh has accelerated significantly since Yogi Adityanath took over as chief minister of the state. Addressing a session on "reimagining cities as growth centres for new Uttar Pradesh" at the Global Investors Summit here, the Union housing and urban development minister said India will become the world's largest economy by 2040. "Development and implementation of schemes in Uttar Pradesh have accelerated significantly since Yogi Adityanath took over as chief minister of the state in 2017, Puri said. "I continue to visit the city every second or third month. The previous government had little interest in implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, which was launched by the central government in June 2015," he said. After Adityanath took over in 2017, more than 17 lakh houses were built in the next 17 months, Puri said. "These figures are enough to tell the success story of the state.

Work in progress to set up Coal-to-Methanol plants in country: Puri

Work is in progress to set up Coal-to-Methanol plants in the country using indigenous technology, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri said on Tuesday. BHEL (Hyderabad and Trichy), Thermax, and IIT Delhi are working on the project, the Union minister said while inaugurating the demo run of an Inland Water Vessel powered by Methanol blended Diesel (MD15) on the Brahmaputra here. The low-carbon boat ride was done on a 50-seater motor launch marine vessel named 'SB Gangadhar' by Puri and Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameshwar Teli. Methanol is a cost-effective alternative marine fuel, less expensive than other marine fuels and is economical in terms of developing shoreside storage and bunkering infrastructure, Puri said. Assam Petrochemical Limited (APL), Namrup, currently produces about 100 TPD of Methanol and is implementing a new project for the production of 500 TPD of Methanol, Puri said at the event, organised as a part of the .

PM Modi always prioritised energy sector of Northeast: Hardeep Singh Puri

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always prioritised the energy sector of the North East, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said here on Monday. The prime minister's priority is to put the region in the high growth trajectory and as such he is putting great emphasis on the energy sector, Puri said while participating at the run-up to the India Energy Week event here tonight. Puri hopes for cut in petrol prices no sooner oil firms recoup past losses

Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Sunday hoped petrol prices will be reduced no sooner state-owned oil companies recoup past losses. State-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) have for the past 15 months not revised petrol and diesel prices in line with the cost. The losses incurred are now being recouped after oil prices slid. "I will hope if under-recoveries (or losses) end, prices should come down," he said at an event here. Softening of international prices from multi-year peak hit last year had led to companies making profit on petrol but they continue to incur losses on diesel. At one time, profit on petrol was Rs 10 per litre but subsequent firming of oil prices have trimmed it down to halve. Diesel losses have widened to Rs 13 a litre from Rs 10-11 earlier this month, industry sources said. Puri said oil companies acted as responsible corporate citizens by not burdening consumers of the

India increasing domestic oil and gas exploration: Hardeep Singh Puri

India, the world's third largest energy consumer, is increasing domestic oil and gas exploration, diversifying import basket, switching to alternate sources and using gas and green hydrogen as a pathway to energy transition and security, Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said Sunday. Puri, who was here for an event showcasing age-old boats on the 'ghats' of the holy city switching to CNG instead of polluting diesel, said India is projected to contribute fourth of the world's energy demand growth in next couple of decades. While the nation is dependent on imports to meet 85 per cent of its oil needs and 50 per cent of its natural gas requirements, India is mixing ethanol extracted from sugarcane and other agri produce in petrol to cut overseas reliance. It will achieve 20 per cent ethanol blending in petrol by 2025, Puri said. "Our energy security strategy is based on four pillars of diversification of energy supplies, increasing exploration and production footprint, using alternate
