At 3,230, Punjab records max farm fires in a day; AQ 'severe' in Haryana

Punjab on Sunday reported 3,230 farm fires, the highest in a day so far this season, while the air quality in large parts of Haryana was recorded in 'very poor' and 'severe' categories. With the 3,230 fresh farm fires, the total number of stubble burning incidents in Punjab so far this season stands at 17,403, according to Punjab Remote Sensing Centre data. Farm fires reported in November constitute 56 per cent of the total stubble burning incidents this season, the data showed. However, the number of stubble burning incidents registered from September 15 to November 5 this year is 41 per cent less than 29,400 recorded during the corresponding period last year. Punjab reported 28,792 farm fires during the same period in 2021. Out of the 3,230 stubble burning incidents reported on Sunday, Sangrur reported the maximum at 551. Haryana cracks down on stubble burning, imposes fines of over Rs 25 lakh

Amplifying its crackdown against stubble burning offenders, the Haryana government has issued 939 challans and imposed fines of over Rs 25.12 lakh, officials said on Friday. The state government remains dedicated to completely eliminating the crop residue burning incidents, even as it has achieved 38 per cent reduction in stubble burning incidents during the current harvesting season over the previous year, they said. The officials said the state government is taking stringent action against those responsible for the farm fires, having imposed 939 challans with fines totalling over Rs 25.12 lakh by October 31. Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal said the state government is vigilant about the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the state and has implemented stringent measures to further reduce paddy straw burning. Govt to increase sugarcane prices, says Haryana agriculture minister Dalal

Haryana Agriculture Minister J P Dalal on Monday said that the state government will increase sugarcane prices and soon a decision in favour of cane farmers will be taken. The government will increase the prices of sugarcane. A decision will be made in the coming days after the approval of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Dalal said, according to an official statement. Haryana giving special incentive to farmers to adopt crop diversification

The Haryana government is giving special incentives to farmers for adopting crop diversification, said an official statement here on Sunday. This will not only enhance their income but will also ensure the protection of the environment. The farmers' future centres around crop diversity, it said. In this direction, the state government took the initiative and started its ambitious Mera Pani-Meri Virasat Scheme, under which the key objective is to ensure water conservation while crop diversification. "This scheme is proving to be very effective, and considering its success, a target of saving 42,480 crore litres of water has been set for the year 2023-24," it said. Haryana govt to run 'Ayushman Bhava' campaign from Sept 1 to Dec 31

Haryana's health department will run an 'Ayushman Bhava' special campaign from September 1 to December 31 with an aim to achieve comprehensive coverage of the health scheme across the state. The four-month-long campaign will reach out to every household and involve the entire populace, said Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal while presiding over a meeting here on Thursday to discuss the 'Ayushman Bhava' campaign. Kaushal said under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) families with annual income up to Rs 1.8 lakh will be provided free health cards. Mobile internet, bulk SMS services suspended in Nuh district till Aug 28

The Haryana government on Saturday ordered suspension of mobile internet and the bulk SMS services in the communally charged Nuh till August 28 in view of the call for a 'Shobha Yatra'. The government announced the decision apprehending spread of rumours through social media by anti-social elements ahead or during the rally called to be held on Monday. The suspension order was issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) T V S N Prasad on Saturday. Nuh communal violence accused held after brief gunfight with police

A man allegedly involved in the communal violence in Nuh was arrested after a brief encounter with police, officials said Thursday. The arrested accused was identified as Osama alias Pehelwan, resident of Ferozpur Namak village, police said. According to police, so far 61 FIRs have been registered and 286 accused arrested in connection with the communal clashes that erupted in Nuh when the Vishva Hindu Parishad's Braj Mandal Yatra was attacked by a mob on July 31. Six people, including two home guards and a cleric, died in the communal clashes. Late Wednesday night, the Nuh police arrested Osama after a brief encounter near Ujina canal drain. 7 deputy commissioners among 16 IAS officers transferred in Haryana

In a major administrative reshuffle, the Haryana government on Saturday shifted 16 IAS officers and 28 HCS officers with immediate effect. Among them, seven deputy commissioners were transferred, according to an official order. Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij has directed the state police chief to submit a report within 15 days on the cases in which investigation has been pending for more than one year. In a letter to Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur, who recently assumed charge, Vij stated that investigation has been pending in about 3,229 cases in various districts for more than one year and termed it a serious matter. According to an official statement on Friday, Vij asked the DGP to explain the reasons for the delay in the investigation of these cases and submit a detailed report within 15 days. Nuh violence: FIR against provocative speeches at Palwal 'mahapanchayat'

Police have registered an FIR against unidentified people for allegedly making provocative speeches at the August 13 'Sarv Hindu Samaj mahapanchayat' in Haryana's Palwal, officials said. The FIR was registered based on a complaint by Probationer Sub-Inspector (PSI) Sachin, who alleged that some people gave provocative speeches against the people of another community during the gathering in Pondri village, they said. Haryana extends family income limit to avail Ayushman Bharat to Rs 3 lakh

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Saturday increased the annual income limit under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana from Rs 1.8 lakh to Rs 3 lakh, a move to raise the number of state beneficiaries under the scheme. Khattar made this announcement during the 'Jan Samvad programme' at Bakana village in the Yamunanagar district, said an official release. With this announcement, eight lakh more families in the state are expected to be included under the scheme, taking the total beneficiary families under the Ayushman Bharat Chirayu Haryana Yojana to 38 lakh, Khattar said.
