Haryana govt rejects ethnic cleansing charge, court to hear demolition case

The Haryana government on Friday rejected in the high court the suggestion that a demolition drive in violence-hit Nuh did not follow procedure and was an exercise in ethnic cleansing, as the bench hearing the case referred it to the chief justice's court. On Monday, the Punjab and Haryana High court had halted the demolition of illegally-constructed buildings in Muslim-dominated Nuh, questioning if a particular community was being targeted after communal violence broke out there. As the case came up for hearing before the division bench of Justices Arun Palli and Jagmohan Bansal on Friday, Haryana's Additional Advocate General Deepak Sabharwal told the court that due procedure established under the law was followed. "We have apprised the court that it is not at all a case of ethnic cleansing and the government never works like this. For the state, all are equal. Entire procedure followed before the demolition was carried out," he told reporters later. The government will file a ..

CM Khattar can update on Nuh issue, he has all the information: Vij

Two days after Anil Vij denied having information about any intelligence input on a possible build-up of tension in Nuh, the Haryana Home Minister on Sunday said Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar can update on the issue stressing that he has "all the information". The remarks by Vij, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader, has apparently brought his displeasure over not being kept in the loop on the issue. Vij has the responsibility of law and order, but does not have the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) under him which comes under the chief minister. The home minister has in the past expressed unhappiness over not being briefed or given feedback on various issues by the CID. On Friday, Vij had said he did not have information about any intelligence input on a possible build-up of tension in the wake of the VHP procession that was attacked in Nuh district by mobs on July 31. "Dekhiye, Nuh mamle mein jo bhi batayenge mukhya mantri ji batayenge, unhi ke paas sari soochnaye h

Did not have intel on possible build-up of tension in Nuh: Haryana HM Vij

Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij has said he did not have information about any intelligence input on a possible build-up of tension in the wake of the religious procession that was attacked in Nuh district by mobs on July 31. "I asked the ACS (additional chief secretary), Home, and the DGP. They also said they did not have any information," Vij said on Friday in response to a question on the violence that erupted in Nuh. "Do not know who had it (intelligence input) or not, I do not have any information about it. At least I did not know about it," he said. Referring to a TV channel sting of a CID Inspector purportedly claiming that authorities had inputs about potential trouble during the VHP yatra in the Muslim-majority district, Vij said a video of the sting operation was going viral and it has to be investigated whom the inspector shared that intelligence with. "If he had the information, then whom did he share it with," the minister asked, adding that he had sent the video to the

BJP-JJP alliance was not forged, Haryana needed stable govt: Chautala

Amid signs of differences between the BJP and its ally JJP, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala on Friday said the alliance between the two parties after the 2019 assembly polls was forged to form a stable government in the state and not due to any compulsion. The Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) leader asserted that the alliance was finalised after the October 2019 polls in the presence of senior BJP leader and now Union Home Minister Amit Shah. After the Haryana Assembly polls, BJP had won 40 seats in the 90-member House, though last year it added one more MLA into its kitty after winning the Adampur bypolls, in which JJP won 10 seats. Both outfits, who had fought against each other, forged a tie-up and formed the government. In the present House, BJP has 41 seats, Congress 30 and JJP 10. While six out of seven Independents support BJP, one each member belongs to Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP), which, too, is supporting the M L Khattar-led ...
