The Haryana government on Thursday announced a pension of Rs 2,750 per month for low-income unmarried people aged between 45 and 60. A similar scheme was unveiled for widowed men and women. The state government already provides a monthly pension to low-income people above 60. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday said unmarried men and women who are in the age group of 45-60 and have an annual income of less than Rs 1.80 lakh will get a pension of Rs 2,750 per month. Similarly, widowed people in the age bracket of 40-60 who have an annual income of less than Rs 3 lakh will also get Rs 2,750 every month, he said. This move will put an additional burden of Rs 240 crore per annum crore on the state exchequer. The Haryana Cabinet Tuesday gave a nod for introducing a new scheme for engaging Women Self-help Groups as service providers in the rural water supply scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). While promoting water conservation, the scheme also aims to give SHG members an opportunity to earn additional income as well as gram panchayats to increase revenue from the residents, said an official release here. The Haryana government on Monday approved 795 new schemes at an estimated cost of Rs 834.10 crore to augment drinking water supply in urban and rural areas, it said in a statement. The projects approved include 134 new urban water supply and sewerage schemes that will cost an estimated Rs 104.27 crore. The government also sanctioned Rs 801.48 crore for 286 already approved projects for the current financial year for the acceleration of works on flagship programmes of the Public Health and Engineering department in the state's rural and urban areas, it said. Four people were arrested from Haryana's Ambala district on Saturday for their alleged involvement in the attack on Bhim Army chief Chandra Shekhar Aazad, a police official said. They were apprehended in a joint operation by the Haryana and Uttar Pradesh police, Haryana Special Task Force Deputy Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar said. The Dalit leader was injured when unidentified assailants opened fire on his car in Deoband in Uttar Pradesh on June 28. The four were arrested from the Shahzadpur area in Ambala, Kumar said and added that the accused were identified as Vikas of Haryana and Vikas, Prashant and Lovish of Uttar Pradesh. Vikas belonged to Gonder village in Haryana's Karnal district while the three others hailed from Rankhandi village in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur area, he said. The INLD has written to authorities in the US, warning them about forged party letterheads being used by people to seek asylum in that country. In a letter to the US Department of Justice, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) Secretary Nachhattar Singh Malhan said the party office has issued "documents for asylum" only for two people. All documents relating to other people are forged, the letter said. Malhan on Tuesday said the party recently learnt that some people were forging its letterhead to issue letters to asylum seekers in the US. These letters cited "threats" to their lives in India. Haryana has been implementing proactive measures to transform paddy straw, which was once seen as an environmental hazard, into a valuable source to enhance farmers' income, Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal said on Thursday. These measures include the announcement of a common determined rate (CDR) of Rs 2,500 per metric tonne for paddy straw, as well as the continued provision of financial support for in-situ/ex-situ techniques and the Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) technique in paddy cultivation, he said. Additionally, Haryana has successfully reduced farm fires by about 40 per cent as compared to the previous year, Kaushal said.
