Nepal cinema's resumes screening of Hindi movies except 'Adipurush'

Screening of Hindi movies resumed in the country on Friday, days after they were banned following a controversy over "Adipurush" dialogues where Goddess Sita is referred as "India's daughter". In Kathmandu, many cinema halls started screening Hindi films, except "Adipurush", which continues to face a ban. In the city's multiplex QFX Cinema, situated in Sundhara, Hindi film "Zara Hatke, Zara Bachke", starring Sara Ali Khan and Vikki Kaushal, was screened. In a statement, Nepal Motion Picture Association said all Nepali and foreign films except "Adipurush" will be screened from Friday. A dialogue of "Adipurush", in which Sita is mentioned as "India's daughter", had led to the ban on all Hindi films, which was announced by Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah. Sita, also referred to as Janaki, is believed by many to have been born in Janakpur in southeast Nepal. Protests against 'Adipurush' in UP, Ayodhya seers seek ban on its screening

Seers in Ayodhya demanded an immediate ban on "Adipurush" saying its dialogues made their "blood boil" as different parts of Uttar Pradesh witnessed protests against the film on Monday. A group of people staged a protest in Varanasi and tore posters of the film and the Hindu Mahasabha lodged a complaint with the Lucknow police against its makers and actors. A Hindu outfit also staged a protest outside a theatre in the temple town of Mathura. Joining the chorus against the film, the Samajwadi Party said the faithful are hurt by its "cheap and superficial dialogues" and that the film was part of an "agenda". "Adipurush", a retelling of the epic Ramayana directed by Om Raut, was released on Friday. It has been panned over its colloquial dialogues and controversial depiction of some characters. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan's "Pathaan" has become the all-time number one Hindi film in India by raising Rs 1028 crore worldwide since its release in January, said Yash Raj Films (YRF). According to the studio, the Siddharth Anand directorial raised Rs 1.07 crore nett in India (Hindi 1.05 crore, all dubbed versions 0.02 crore) on its sixth Friday. "The total worldwide gross is an incredible 1028 crore (India gross : 641.50 crore, overseas : 386.50 crore)" YRF said in a press note. Ayushmann Khurrana starrer 'Doctor G' earns over Rs 5 crore on day two

Campus comedy-drama "Doctor G" has amassed over Rs 5 crore on the second day of its release, the makers announced on Sunday. Starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rakul Preet Singh, the film marks the directorial debut of Anubhuti Kashyap. In an Instagram post, production house Junglee Pictures said the film has so far raised Rs 9.09 crore nett at the box office -- Rs 3.87 crore on Friday and Rs 5.22 crore on Saturday. "We just can't stop our hearts from doing all (love) as #DoctorG crossed 9.09 Cr in just 2 days! Thank you for making our weekend this great! 'Brahmastra Part One: Shiva' raises Rs 160 crore in two days worldwide

"Brahmastra Part One: Shiva" has crossed the Rs 150 crore-mark in gross box office collection worldwide in the first two days of its release, the makers said Sunday. Released on September 9, the first installment of the big-budget fantasy adventure epic starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Amitabh Bachchan had collected Rs 75 crore on its opening day.
