A man died in a suspected attack by wild elephants on the city outskirts, police said today. The body of the man, in his mid-30s, was found with injury marks, indicating attack by elephants, they said. Forest officials spotted pugmarks of an elephant and its calf -- at the spot on the banks of Noyyal River. The man, yet to be identified, was said to be mentally deranged and was seen roaming in the area in the last two days, police said.

The well-known star of Discovery's 'Deadliest Catch', Blake Painter, has died at the age of 38.A spokesperson of Clatsop County Sheriff's office said the body was discovered by Painter's friends at his Oregon residence on Friday, reported E! Online.Painter was famous as an expert crab fisherman. He had even served as a captain of a crabbing vessel, F/V Maverick, in 2006 and 2007. A man in the US state of Illinois was charged today with hate crimes and other criminal offences after swastikas were found spray-painted on hundreds of headstones in a cemetery. Some 200 graves were defaced with swastikas drawn with black spray paint between Friday night and early Saturday morning at the Sunset Hills Cemetery in Glen Carbon, a small community near the city of St Louis. The vandalism occurred as the country was entering the Memorial Day holiday weekend, which commemorates fallen American veterans. About 1,300 veterans are buried at the nondenominational cemetery. Black-and-white security video captured the alleged vandal's image, and police arrested 34-year-old Timothy McLean. McLean was charged with a host of criminal offences, including four hate crimes charges for the cemetery vandalism and additional vandalism on homes in a nearby community, police said. A woman was allegedly raped by five men in southwest Delhi's Vasant Kunj, the police said today. The incident was reported yesterday, following which the accused were arrested, they said. According to the complaint lodged by the woman who works in a club, she was waiting for a cab when five men forced her into their car and took her to a paying guest house and raped her, the police said.
In a horrific incident, a two-year-old girl was eaten by a pack of dogs at Bhim Nagar colony in Govind Puri area of Modinagar, a district official said today. The stray dogs took the baby from a double-storey building to a sugarcane field and ate her yesterday, Sub Divisional Magistrate of Modinagar, Pawan Agarwal, said. The enraged people of the area raised slogans against the Modinagar Municipality. Nepal today honoured nine Sherpa climbers for successfully scaling Mount Everest, on the anniversary of the first conquest of the world's highest peak. The programme was organised to commemorate the first human ascent to the 8,848 metre peak on May 29, 1953 by mountaineer Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay. On the occasion of the International Everest Day, those who received the honour include Kami Rita, 48, Lhakpa Sherpa, 44, who climbed the Everest nine times, setting a record of most number of summits by a woman climber, Mingma Chhiri Sherpa, who summited the mountain 19 times and climber Nimagombu Sherpa who summited the mountain 18 times. A zoo official in southwestern Poland is celebrating the birth of a bear cuscus, saying it's the first time the rare marsupial mammal's been born in captivity. Joanna Kij of the Wroclaw zoo said today that keepers noticed "movement and a little one" in the female marsupial's pouch in March. The baby bear cuscus mostly remains in the pouch but sometimes leaves to inspect the surroundings. Kij said the female is taking very good care of her offspring and the family is being kept in a secluded place. Bear cuscuses live on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and little is known about them, but their population is shrinking rapidly. To preserve the species, 13 animals are held in four zoos around the world, but they have not reproduced there previously.
