Sitapur DM calls for setting up monitoring committees to curb dog attacks
Appalled by attacks on children by feral dogs, the district administration here has appealed to people to constitute monitoring committees to prevent such incidents. Six children had died of such attacks this month. "We appeal to you to constitute monitoring committees to prevent the children from being attacked by dogs. Details of the children who were killed in such attacks have been issued. Eyewitness accounts and monitoring committees have confirmed the attacks by pack of dogs," District Magistrate Sheetal Verma said. She said 30 dogs have so far been sent to Kanha Upvan, Lucknow for sterilisation after which they were to be released in the open. The DM has also directed schools to ask parents to remain alert, adding that Animal Birth Control (ABC) clinics will also start functioning from today. Tejashwi takes jibe at Nitish over Bihar special status issue
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav today took potshots at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accusing him of using the issue of special status for the state as his "pet political mileage cow". In a series of tweets, Yadav, the leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, alleged that Kumar had "opposed" grant of special status to the state upon its bifurcation in 2000. Zoo mulls mating white tiger with royal bengal tiger
The Delhi zoo is mulling mating its white tiger with Royal Bengal tiger. "We are considering it (the mating program). We are working out the details. A final announcement will be made soon," a zoo official said. The National Zoological Park is famous for its rich breeding programmes. It has also participated in various exchange programmes by giving surplus animals to other zoos. The tiger population at the zoo has always drawn a sizeable crowd and the zoo officials are trying hard to increase their numbers. Spread across 176 acres of land, the Delhi zoo is one of the most spacious zoological parks of the country. It is home to about 1,350 animals representing almost 130 species, apart from having a wide variety of indigenous and exotic birds. The zoo is also part of the conservation breeding programmes of the Central Zoo Authority.
Cong leader Ranjeet Deshmukh files plaint against son,
Former Maharashtra minister and senior Congress leader Ranjeet Deshmukh has filed a police complaint against his younger son for "forcibly occupying" his house and "not vacating it" despite repeated requests, police said today. However, Deshmukh's son Dr Amol later clarified that the matter has been sorted out and that his father has withdrawn the complaint. Deshmukh senior, who owns a house near GPO Square, Civil Lines here, filed the complaint with Sitabuldi police station against Amol on May 5. Senior inspector of Sitabuldi police station, H K Kharabe, confirmed that they have received a written complaint from Deshmukh.
