After tweet, Pak releases video to remember Tipu Sultan on his death anniversary

Pakistan on Friday released a video remembering 18th-century ruler Tipu Sultan on his 218th death anniversary, a couple of hours after tweeting about the same.The text in the video celebrates Tipu Sultan as a hero, saying, "Renowned for his bravery in the wars against the British Empire. He is regarded as the first freedom fighter for his fierce battles against the British."The text further states that the Sultan ensured the right of minorities. 75-year-old man sexually abuses minor girl in Odisha

A minor girl in Odisha's Balasore district was sexually abused allegedly by a 75-year-old man, who has been arrested, police said today. The incident took place at Sana Matipur village in Balasore district yesterday and the parents of the 10-year-old girl lodged an FIR at Simulia police station against the septuagenarian. According to the FIR, the man committed the crime at his house where he stays alone. The accused has been arrested based on the FIR and investigations are on, the police said. "The police arrested the man who allegedly sexually abused the minor girl after luring her with chocolates and money. The accused will undergo medical examination," Inspector-in-charge of Simulia Police Station, Sanjay Panda told reporters.

Jnanpith laureate M T Vasudevan Nair bags ONV Literary Prize

Jnanpith laureate M T Vasudevan Nair has won this year's annual ONV Literary Prize, instituted in memory of iconic poet late O N V Kurup, for his overall contributions to Malayalam literature. The award, comprising a cash prize of Rs three lakh, citation and a plaque, was instituted by the ONV Cultural Academy here. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan would present the award to Nair, popularly known as M T among his admirers, at a function here on May 27. He was selected by a jury comprising critic M M Basheer, K Jayakumar and Prabhavarma. Two more children mauled by dogs in Sitapur

Two more children were mauled to death and as many injured by packs of stray dogs in the district today, police said. Earlier on Tuesday three children were mauled to death by dogs in villages of Khairabad area after which the district administration called a dog-catching team from Mathura to deal with the menace. Giving details of today's incident, police said the first attack took place in Budanpur village when Virendra (10) was collecting mangoes and was attacked by a pack of dogs.He was rushed to a hospital where he died, police said. In a separate incident in village Mahisangpur, Geeta (6) was mauled to death by dogs outside her house. Two others were injured is similar incidents. One Rinkal (5) of Peerpur village and a 12-year-girl of Choubeypur village were injured in dog bites while they were going to school, police said. Minor raped by landlord

A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her landlord in Babu Singh Colony in this district, police said today. The girl complained of stomach ache to her mother who took her to a hospital where doctors found that she had been raped. "When I returned home, my daughter complained of stomach ache and her condition was deteriorating. When we took her to the hospital, we found out the reason. My son told me that the landlord had taken her with him," the woman said in a statement to police. Twitter finds bug, suggests users to change password

Twitter has recommended all users to change their passwords after a bug was found that stored passwords in an internal log.An official statement from Twitter stressed that the mishap did not expose its 330 million users to any security breach."We recently found a bug that stored passwords unmasked in an internal log. We fixed the bug and have no indication of a breach or misuse by anyone," the statement read.Even though the bug was fixed, the company suggested taking the precautionary measure, "Out of an abundance of caution, we ask that you consider changing your password on all services where you've used this password."The company said that they are "implementing plans to prevent this bug from happening again.

Case registered in connection with hoax call

The Delhi Police has registered a case in connection with a hoax call received about a bomb on a Mumbai-bound flight, police said today. A staffer of the Indigo airlines had yesterday informed the security authorities that they had received a call at about 8:15 am from an unidentified man, who said there was a bomb on the flight, the officials said. A case was registered today in the matter against unidentified persons, the police said. The mandatory meeting of the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was immediately convened at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), which declared that it was a "hoax" call after about two hours, the officials said. The call had sent the security apparatus at airport into a tizzy for a few hours. It had delayed an Indigo flight to Mumbai.
