Mortal remains of an Army officer, who had the unique distinction of being awarded a Yuddh Sewa Medal as a second lieutenant for his gallant action against the Pakistani soldiers in Siachen Glacier in 1989, were today laid to rest in Dharamsala, officials said. Hundreds of people with moist eyes joined the funeral ceremony of Lt Col Deepak Thapa, who had breathed his last on March 8, after battling cancer for more than a year in Army's super speciality Research & Referral Hospital here, a senior official said. "The officer had the unique distinction of being awarded with a Yudh Sewa Medal as a second lieutenant for his gallant action against the Pakistani soldiers in the inhospitable Siachen Glacier in 1989. "The area of action was rechristened as 'Thapa base' in his name, which till date serves as a source of motivation for all young soldiers and officers alike," he said. An elderly woman in China today vandalised the stall of a fortune teller who wrongly predicted her death, according to a media report. The fortune-teller told the 70-year-old womanin Mianyang in southwestern Sichuan province in March last year that she would not live to see 2018. The woman, identified only as Wang, then spent the year in fear and prepared for her death, Hong Kong based South China Morning Post reported. I was terrified when the fortune-teller told me I wouldn't be able to live till the end of last year. I worried every day, Wang was quoted as saying. But she remained in good health, despite the fears. When Wang ran into the fortune-teller in the park this week, she took her anger out on his stall. A police officer intervened and asked the fortune-teller to apologise to Wang for causing stress.
