Vijayendra Saraswathi now head of Kanchi Mutt
Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi, who was the junior pontiff of the Kanchi Mutt, has assumed charge as its chief consequent to the passing away of 69th head Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi, the mutt said today. After the passing away of the 69th pontiff, Jayendra Saraswathi on February 28, "Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal has started to perform the duties of the 'peetadhipati' of Sri Kanchi Kamakotti Peetam," the Mutt said in a release. A mutt official said Vijayendra Saraswathi assuming charge has been communicated to the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of the Tamil Nadu government as well. 48-year old Vijayendra Saraswathi had become the 70th acharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam on May 29, 1983. Gadchiroli police in Maharashtra are aiming to break a world record of highest number of people coming together to listen to a book-reading tomorrow. More than 7,000 people would attend reading of a chapter from "Gandhi Vichar Aani Ahimsa" (Gandhian thought and non-violence) at the Gadchiroli police headquarters ground. The Norwegian Nobel Committee has uncovered two fraudulent Nobel Prize nominations for United States Presidents Donald Trump.Olav Njolstad, the secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which awards the prize, told The Washington Post that the committee had detected the "forged" nominations and raised the issue with the Oslo police."We receive many invalid nominations each year in the sense that they don't meet the deadline or the nominator is not, in fact, qualified to nominate. The Delhi High Court today sought the response of Payal Abdullah, the estranged wife of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on his plea seeking divorce on the ground that their marriage has broken down irretrievably. A bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Deepa Sharma issued notice to Payal asking her to file a reply before the next date of hearing on April 23. The court also sought her stand on an application moved by Omar seeking early hearing in the matter. Advocate Malavika Rajkotia, appearing for Omar, claimed that the court had on an earlier date asked if the parties wanted to get married again. Replying on behalf of her client, the lawyer said Omar needs to have an option for remarrying.
