Hydrogen futuristic fuel, MP to become leading state in production: Gadkari

Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday termed hydrogen as "futuristic" fuel and said Madhya Pradesh will become the top state in green hydrogen production like it is in the field of agriculture under the BJP rule. Addressing a public meeting while flagging off Jan Ashirward Yatra in Khandwa, Gadkari congratulated Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in view of the state holding the top position in the country in agriculture production for seven times on the trot. The BJP has planned yatras to reach out to people ahead of assembly elections, due later this year. The state is producing thermal, hydro, wind and solar power in a major way in the country. An electrolyser can be set up near the solar power facility to produce green hydrogen from water and I am confident that like agriculture, Madhya Pradesh will remain top in producing green hydrogen in the country which is futuristic fuel, he said. The Minister of Road Transport & Highways also said farmers would not .

Govt unveils Green Hydrogen standards, sets emission limits for production

The government on Saturday unveiled Green Hydrogen standards and included electrolysis and biomass-based methods in its definition. In a significant move for the progress of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the government has notified the Green Hydrogen Standard for India, the New and Renewable Energy Ministry said in a statement. The standards issued by the ministry outline the emission thresholds that must be met in order for hydrogen produced to be classified as Green', i.e., from renewable sources. The scope of the definition encompasses both electrolysis-based and biomass-based hydrogen production methods, it stated. After discussions with multiple stakeholders, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy has decided to define Green Hydrogen as having a well-to-gate emission (i.e., including water treatment, electrolysis, gas purification, drying and compression of hydrogen) of not more than 2 kg CO2 equivalent / kg H2. The notification specifies that a detailed methodology ..

EIB keen to extend 1 bn euro for green hydrogen, RE projects in India

Luxembourg-based European Investment Bank (EIB) on Thursday said it is keen to extend finance of 1 billion euros for the development of green hydrogen and renewable energy projects in India. In this regard, EIB Vice-President Kris Peeters will make a four-day business visit to India this week to strengthen cooperation with the Indian public and private sectors and discuss EIB support for clean energy investment and its transport in the country, the bank said in a statement. The European Investment Bank (EIB) is the lending institution of the European Union member states. "The aim of the visit is to confirm the EIB's commitment to future investment under the EU-India Connectivity Partnership, in support of the European Green Deal and the EU Global Gateway strategy...," the statement said. Peeters will visit the G20 Infrastructure Investors Dialogue (IID), where he will meet banking leaders. The G20 IID is an official G20 event organised during the third meeting of finance ministers

Torrent begins pilot project for blending green hydrogen with natural gas

Torrent Power on Monday said it is working on a pilot project for blending green hydrogen with natural gas in the city gas distribution (CGD) network. The pilot project underway in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, is expected to complete in 8 months, the company said in a statement. "Torrent Power is implementing a green hydrogen pilot project for blending in the CGD network. The pilot project based on alkaline electrolyser will blend 2.5 per cent green hydrogen (GH2) into CGD network, marking an important milestone in the company's foray into GH2 business in India," it said. GH2 is produced using electrolysis of water powered by renewable sources. Its blending with the existing natural gas supply allows for a gradual transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy mix. Torrent Power is one of the largest companies in the country's power sector, with a presence across the entire power value chain -- generation, transmission and distribution.

PM Modi, Kishida discuss cooperation in green hydrogen, semiconductors

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida on Saturday held talks focusing on boosting bilateral cooperation in areas of green hydrogen, high technology, semiconductors and digital public infrastructure. In the nearly 50-minute talks on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Modi and Kishida also deliberated on ways to synergise efforts to combat pressing global challenges under India's G20 presidency and Japan's leadership of the G7 advanced economies. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the two prime ministers exchanged views on a wide range of issues, including development finance, food security, climate change and energy among others. "The leaders discussed ways to synergise efforts of their respective G-20 and G-7 presidencies. The prime minister stressed the need to highlight the concerns and priorities of the Global South," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. IIT-Guwahati develops catalyst to produce sustainable green hydrogen fuel

Researchers at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Guwahati have developed a catalyst that can produce sustainable green hydrogen fuel from wood alcohol with no carbon dioxide as a byproduct, according to officials. The easy and environmentally safe process also produces formic acid which is a useful industrial chemical. This makes methanol a promising Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) and contributes to the concept of hydrogen-methanol economy, the officials said. The research has been published in journal ACS Catalysis. Akshai Kumar AS, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, IIT-Guwahati said the world is moving towards finding alternatives to fossil fuels, and hydrogen gas continues to be the best source of clean energy generation. "Currently, hydrogen is produced either by the electrochemical splitting of water or from bio-derived chemicals such as alcohol. In the latter method, hydrogen is typically produced from methyl alcohol (commonly called wood alcohol) using

Green hydrogen company Ohmium raises $250 mn to help address climate change

In what could prove a milestone for an industry that hopes to help address climate change, the Silicon Valley company Ohmium announced Wednesday it has raised $250 million to increase production of machines that can make clean hydrogen and displace fossil fuels. Some climate experts say burning hydrogen can substitute for burning coal, oil or gas, for example in making steel or cement without contributing to climate change. That's been largely theoretical, but real world examples are now growing. Just four or five years ago, a company working on clean hydrogen from water would not have been able to raise several hundred million dollars, said Daryl Wilson, executive director of the Hydrogen Council. But now there's rapid growth and demand for it, and a broader recognition that it's key to addressing climate change, he said. Mark Viehman, a hydrogen and clean fuels expert at the consulting firm Capgemini, called $250 million a very impressive fundraise, and said its own recent resear
