How to deal with pressure of Indo-Pak game? Anil Kumble's key suggestions

India are set to play Pakistan in the Asia Cup and the World Cup in the coming two months, and legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble said on Tuesday that the key will be to take it as just another game of cricket. The former India captain has an outstanding record against Pakistan in both Tests and ODIs, having taken 81 wickets from 15 Tests, including snaring all 10 wickets in an innings (10/74) in 1999 at New Delhi. In 34 ODIs against Pakistan, Kumble has grabbed 54 wickets. "In our times, the word was 'lose even to Kenya but not to Pakistan'. There was pressure and expectation on the players. "That's how the matches between India and Pakistan are being played and the key is to treat it as just another match," Kumble said here while speaking during the launch of Pitchside, the memoir written by veteran cricket administrator Amrit Mathur. The function was also attended by former India batter and the current NCA chief VVS Laxman and former India wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani. The 10-wick

Jaydev Unadkat or Shardul Thakur: Who will be the extra pacer at World Cup?

The national selection committee will have its task cut out as it would have to choose between Shardul Thakur and Jaydev Unadkat for the extra fast bowler's slot in the 15-member India squad for the World Cup, starting October 5. As per ICC rule, every team has to submit its initial squad of 15 by September 5 but the final submission can be done by September 27, and a country is allowed to make as many changes as possible between the initial and final submission. Interestingly, the Australia series ends on September 27, the day of the final submission. Therefore, one shouldn't be surprised if India carry around 16 to 18 members for both the Asia Cup and Australia home series before zeroing in on the final squad. So Unadkat and Shardul will certainly get their share of chances during the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and the three-match home series against Australia (both in September), serving as a pre-cursor to the World Cup. ODI World Cup 2023: McGrath picks AUS, ENG, IND and PAK as semifinalists

The legendary Glenn McGrath on Monday picked India, Australia, England and Pakistan as the semifinalists of the 2023 ICC World Cup, adding that playing in an ODI series here prior to the showpiece would help his country immensely in terms of preparation. The tournament will be held in India in October-November. With Australia and England dominating the ICC competitions lately, McGrath feels that the two sides have the best chance of making it to the last-four stage of the showpiece. "Although the (Australian) Test team is quite different to the one-day one, I think they will do well. Australia is one of the top four teams to make it to the semis of the World Cup," he said during his visit to the MRF Pace Foundation academy here. "They like competing in the big tournaments and big games. They perform well and have got enough experience, and also have some younger guys coming through. Also, they have enough matches in the sub-continent to prepare for the tournament." "I put India an

ODI World Cup: Rohit banks on home support to lift the cup after 12 years

Skipper Rohit Sharma will be banking on the "massive" home support his team will get to win the ODI World Cup in India. India's last ODI World Cup title came at home in 2011 when M S Dhoni and Co lifted the coveted trophy. "I've never seen it so close. Even when we won in 2011, I was not part of the squad. But yeah, it looks beautiful, so many memories behind the trophy as well, the past, the history. "Yeah, so, it looks beautiful and hopefully we can lift it, fingers crossed," Rohit, who is currently in the United States, was quoted as saying by the ICC. The tournament beginning October 5 will be played across 10 venues in India. "I know for a fact that every ground, every venue that we will be travelling to will get massive support. You know, it's the World Cup, so everyone is looking forward to this and the World Cup coming back to India after 12 years "...you know 2011 was the last time we played a 50-over World Cup. ODI World Cup: PAK vs ENG on Nov 12 could be rescheduled due to Kali Puja

The Cricket Association of Bengal on Saturday requested ICC recce team about concerns raised by local security agencies with regards to World Cup match between Pakistan and England on November 12 coinciding with Kali Puja. If BCCI and ICC have to accommodate another date change, then Pakistn will have a third change in schedule. This is after rescheduling of India vs Pakistan game (October 14 instead of 15 in Ahmedabad) and Sri Lanka vs Pakistan game (now on October 10 in Hyderabad instead of October 12). The Ahmedabad Police had told the BCCI that it would find it difficult to take care of security on October 15 which happens to be the first day of the Hindu festival of Navaratri. The ICC and BCCI had released the schedule at a grand ceremony on June 27 but now the revised schedule is yet to be published as it has completely gone haywire. Australia World Cup probables: Marnus Labuschagne's name not in the list

Marnus Labuschagne was on Monday left out of Australia's 18-man preliminary squad for the ODI World Cup in India in October-November. Labuschagne was part of Australia's last ODI squad that played three matches in India earlier this year. The right-handed batter has featured in 30 ODIs since making his debut in January 2020. Uncapped leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha and all-rounder Aaron Hardie are the fresh faces in the Australia squad. The same 18-man extended squad, which will be trimmed later to 15 for the ODI World Cup, has been named for the series against South Africa and India in September ahead of the 50-over showpiece beginning October 5. In a statement, Cricket Australia gave a fitness update on skipper Pat Cummins, who injured his left wrist during the fifth and final Ashes Test at the Oval. He will miss the T20s in South Africa but will be available for the ODIs against the Proteas as well as India. "Pat has an undisplaced fracture of his left radius which requires six weeks

Pakistan cricket team gets government clearance for World Cup participation

The Pakistan government on Sunday gave clearance to the country's senior men's team to travel to India for the 2023 World Cup, ending months of uncertainty over their participation in the showpiece. A press release from the foreign ministry informed that Pakistan has consistently maintained that sports should not be mixed with politics. It has, therefore, decided to send its team to India to compete in the upcoming World Cup. "Pakistan believes that the state of bilateral relations with India should not stand in the way of fulfilling its international sports-related obligations," the release said. The ministry said that Pakistan, however, has deep concerns about the security of its team and it would convey them to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Indian authorities. "We expect that the full safety and security of the Pakistan cricket team will be ensured during its visit to India," the release said. It also said that Pakistan's decision shows its "constructive and .

ODI World Cup 2023: Kaif bats for Samson's inclusion in India's squad

Former India international Mohammad Kaif believes that Sanju Samson is fully equipped to bat in the the middle-order and should be in the final 15 for the ODI World Cup at home in October-November. Samson smashed an impactful fifty under pressure in the series deciding third ODI against West Indies in Tarouba on Tuesday. Battling for a middle-order spot alongside Suryarkumar Yadav, Samson delivered in a must-win situation to make a strong case for himself. Shreyas Iyer and K L Rahul's absence from the team due to injuries have provided the opportunities to the likes of Samson and Suryakumar, who had a forgettable series in the Caribbean. India have often slowed down in the middle orders and Kaif feels Samson can address that issue. "I am massively impressed by Samson. He played an impactful knock, whether at four or five, he has done it in the past." Kaif didn't endorse sending Ishan Kishan and Axar Patel in the middle order. "Sending Kishan or Axar Patel in the middle-order is

WI vs IND: RP Singh backs Surya to be India's option at No 4 for World Cup

Former fast bowler RP Singh on Friday backed Suryakumar Yadav to be India's option at No 4 during the ICC World Cup in the possible absence of Shreyas Iyer, and said the Mumbaikar should be given ample game-time ahead of the big event. Not having a strong batter at the No 4 slot was one of India's failings in the 2019 World Cup, and four years down the line the team could be troubled by the very same issue as Shreyas has been recuperating from an injury. But Suryakumar, so far, has not been able to replicate his T20I prowess in ODI cricket, and he has gone without a fifty in the last 16 matches. However, RP Singh said ruling out the option of Suryakumar would be naive. Suryakumar Yadav is a good option for No 4, along with Shreyas (Iyer), provided he is fit. But if you are looking at him even as a backup option, it is important to give him game-time and he is certainly a good pick," said RP Singh during an interaction organised by Jio Cinema. Suryakumar is yet to make his mark in

IND vs PAK 2023: Changes in ODI World Cup schedule on cards - Jay Shah

Three full board members have written to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a change in schedule of their matches in the ODI World Cup in India, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said on Thursday. The World Cup starts on October 5. Speaking after a meeting with the associations hosting World Cup games, Shah said the issue of scheduling will be sorted in the next three-four days. "Three members have written to the ICC for a schedule change. Only the date and timings will be changed, venues will not be changed. If there is a six day gap between games, we are trying to reduce it to 4-5 days. Picture will be clear in three-four days. Changes will happen in consultation with the ICC," Shah said. It was reported earlier that the much awaited India versus Pakistan schedule could be rescheduled as October 15 happens to be the opening day of Navratri celebrations in the city and security officials will be already working overtime. A change in schedule of one game is likely to have a domino
