UK deputy PM calls for safe, fair, and inclusive AI to benefit humanity

UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy on Friday emphasised the importance of having a safe, inclusive and equitable artificial intelligence available for everyone. Speaking at a session at the AI Impact Summit in the national capital, Lammy said that the world faces two parts with respect to Artificial Intelligence (AI). The choices the world faces are two paths -- one which sees AI take power and opportunity away from people and "sadly divides us"; and another one that sees AI used as a force for good to solve problems and uplift all of humanity, he said. The session was on 'Speaking Everyone's Language: The Key to Inclusive Al Opportunity' Lammy also mentioned certain projects related to AI, including the Asia AI Development Observatory that would be a new network to support responsible AI governance and other aspects. These projects as well as many new institutions and coalitions that are now emerging can help make sure that "we go down the right path. That is a path of a safe

India to focus on providing affordable compute capacity to all: MoSPI Secy

India is focusing on a model where the government, philanthropists and the private sector can collaborate to ensure that affordable computing capacities are accessible to all, Statistics Secretary Saurabh Garg said on Friday. Speaking at a session 'Building Public Interest AI: Catalytic Funding for Equitable Access to Compute Resources' at AI Impact Summit, Gard said, "The focus is not on rationing but on intelligent prioritising (of compute capacity access). I think that is going to be the focus that impute capacity is enabling platform". He said philanthropic organisations will have a large role to play, as their focus is on ensuring AI benefits for all. "So, with that focus in view, the government, philanthropic organisations and the private sector can collaborate to ensure that affordable computing capacities are accessible to all. I think that's the models that we are looking at and that will ensure experimentation going forward," he stated. Artificial intelligence (AI) will .

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw sees AI-biology convergence transforming healthcare

Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw on Friday said the convergence of biological intelligence and artificial intelligence (AI) can drive a paradigm shift in medicine, enabling breakthroughs in predictive healthcare, regenerative science and lifespan management. "Biology on its own was limited in generating deeper insights, but AI tools are opening immeasurable opportunities to understand living systems," Mazumdar-Shaw said while speaking at the AI Impact Summit here. She noted that biological systems function like distributed data centres, processing information with minimal energy compared to gigawatt-powered AI systems. "Biology has a lot to teach AI in terms of how to do it with less energy, how to do it rapidly, and how to multiplex multimodal data very quickly," she said. Mazumdar-Shaw described reprogramming cells - such as converting malignant cancer cells into non-malignant ones - as the 'holy grail' of medicine. She said AI could accelerate regenerative science and hel

Govt plans 'complete AI stack' to power innovation: Jayant Chaudhary

The government is thinking of creating a "complete AI stack" anchored in anonymised datasets that can be accessed by researchers and startups to power the next wave of innovation, Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary said on Friday. The minister also proposed the creation of an audit trail mechanism for AI systems and suggested that, in the future, institutions such as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) could issue audit reports on AI models to enhance accountability. A complete or full AI stack refers to an end-to-end collection of hardware, software, data, and services required to design, train, deploy, and manage artificial intelligence (AI) applications. Speaking at the AI Impact Summit in the national capital, Chaudhary, Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and the minister of state for education, emphasised the need for data sets to be segmented. AI sovereignty doesn't imply digital isolation: Yotta CEO Sunil Gupta

Sovereignty in artificial intelligence (AI) does not imply isolation or complete self-reliance, but rather strategic control, Sunil Gupta, MD and CEO of Yotta Data Services, said on Friday. Speaking at the AI Impact Summit 2026, Gupta stressed that global interdependence in technology is inevitable. "We will always remain interconnected and interdependent across the world." He further said that some countries will excel at chips, others at raw materials, data, models, talent, or capital, so "collaboration is essential". However, he clarified that sovereignty does not mean attempting to build everything domestically or turning inward. Instead, it means ensuring that no single country or company can dictate a nation's digital future. "Sovereignty is also confused with (the idea that) we will do everything ourselves. We'll start looking inwards. We will isolate ourselves from the rest of the world, and everything is done by us... Sovereignty, for sure, does not mean we become isolated

Institutions need not be gung-ho, use AI if it is tested: MoSPI official

Institutions need not be gung-ho about the use of AI-based solutions until they are tested and trustworthy, a government official said on Friday. Rohit Bhardwaj, Deputy Director General, Data Informatics & Innovation Division, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), also suggested that government departments should make the relevant data AI-ready by creating files that are readable by a computer. "There should be context files, there should be semantics, and there should be metadata," he said, emphasising the storage of information in a structured format so that they become AI-ready. Flagging the importance of testing an AI solution before putting it into use, Bhardwaj cited a report by a group of researchers from a Canadian university, which shows that AI can analyse a particular data set in multiple ways even if given similar prompts. "I just want to flag that we should not be just gung-ho about things which is still untested," he said at the AI Impact ...
