BJP govt talks like a lion, acts like a mouse: Kharge on border faceoff

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday alleged that the BJP government "talks like a lion outside the country, but is acting like a mouse within" as it is unable to take on China for indulging in incursions along the border and is running away from a debate on the issue in Parliament. Tawang clash: Lt Gen Kalita says India firmly in control of northern border

Border areas along the country's northern frontier are stable and Indian Armed forces remain firmly in control, Eastern Army commander Lt General R P Kalita Friday said. Kalita's assertion comes a week after Indian and Chinese soldiers clashed at the border area of Yangtze, to the north east of the monastry town of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, which had been invaded by China's PLA in 1962. Congress presses for debate on Chinese aggression, forces adjournment in RS

The Opposition Congress on Friday kept pressing for a debate on clashes along the border with China, forcing a brief adjournment of proceedings in Rajya Sabha. Congress and other opposition parties have been trying to raise the issue since December 13, after reports appeared of clashes between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh. US seeks strong defence ties with India; pumps billions to counter China

The USD 858 billion defence bill passed by the US Senate seeks to strengthen defence ties with India, including supporting efforts to reduce India's reliance on Russian-built military equipment and funds billions of dollars to take measures to address the challenges posed to America's national security by China. India and China will complete the disengagement process in the Gogra-Hotsprings area in eastern Ladakh by September 12, the External Affairs Ministry said on Friday. SC dismisses PIL seeking info on India-China clashes of 2020 at Galwan

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a PIL that sought a direction to the Centre to provide information on whether the nation lost any territory during the clash with the Chinese military in June 2020, saying these are the matters for the State and not for courts.
