IndiGo pays reduced Rs 70 lakh fine to BCAS over Mumbai airport incident

IndiGo has paid the reduced penalty of Rs 70 lakh imposed by regulator BCAS on the airline in connection with the incident of passengers having food on the Mumbai airport tarmac in January this year. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) had imposed a fine of Rs 1.2 crore on the airline on January 18 for the incident that happened on January 14. In a filing to the BSE on Tuesday, IndiGo said that pursuant to an appeal, BCAS reduced the penalty to Rs 70 lakh through an order dated August 12. "There is a delay in submission of the disclosure within prescribed timelines since the company was in the process of reviewing the legal remedies available against the order. Post review, the Company has paid the revised/reduced penalty amount to BCAS on September 10, 2024," the filing said. IndiGo flight's emergency landing at Kolkata airport due to engine failure

A Bengaluru-bound IndiGo flight had to make an emergency landing at the Kolkata airport minutes after take-off on Friday night due to an engine failure, a senior official said. Flight 6E0573 from Kolkata to Bangalore, which became airborne at 10.36 pm on Friday, made an emergency landing at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport at 10.53 pm after failure of its left engine, he said. However, no fire or spark was reported, the Airports Authority of India spokesperson said on Saturday. The full emergency declared at 10.39 pm was withdrawn at 11.08 pm, he said. Both the runways at NSCBI airport were handed over to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) to make those available for the plane to land back safely, the spokesperson said. It was learnt that the left side engine of the aircraft failed after take-off as a result of which it had to come back to Kolkata, he said.

Rakesh Gangwal, family trust sells 5.83% stake in IndiGo for Rs 10,500 cr

InterGlobe Aviation promoter Rakesh Gangwal and his family trust have reduced their stakes in the airline by selling a combined 5.83 per cent shareholding for about Rs 10,500 crore. A total of 2.25 crore shares or 5.83 per cent holding in InterGlobe Aviation were sold by Gangwal and Chinkerpoo Family Trust, whose trustees are Shobha Gangwal and JP Morgan Trust Company of Delaware. In two separate regulatory filings, Rakesh Gangwal sold 22.50 lakh shares of InterGlobe Aviation and the Chinkerpoo Family Trust disposed of more than 2.02 crore scrips of the airline. After the share sale, Gangwal's stake in InterGlobe Aviation has come down to 5.31 per cent from 5.89 per cent, while the Chinkerpoo Family Trust's stake has declined to 8.24 per cent from 13.49 per cent, the filing said. Also, the combined shareholding of Gangwal and Chinkerpoo Family Trust has reduced to 13.55 per cent from 19.38 per cent. IndiGo will be soon introducing the gender-neutral option of honorific 'Mx' for passengers at the time of booking tickets, as part of larger efforts to boost inclusivity. IndiGo to challenge order imposing penalties related to input tax credit

Leading airline IndiGo on Wednesday said it will contest two orders imposing penalties totalling Rs 3,50,299 on the company in relation to input tax credit. In Odisha, a penalty of Rs 1,77,046 was imposed on the company related to Goods and Services Tax (GST). "The appellate authority has rejected the appeal filed by the company and upheld demand on account of availment of input tax credit for FY 2017-18," InterGlobe Aviation, the parent of IndiGo, said in a regulatory filing. According to the filing, IndiGo is in the process of contesting the appeal order before the appellate tribunal. Separately, in Kerala, the company is facing a penalty of Rs 1,73,253, with the filing saying "the tax officer has denied input tax credit availed and has raised a demand on the company". In this case, the company said it is in the process of contesting the orders before the appropriate appellate authority.

IndiGo aims to increase the number of women pilots in its workforce to over 1,000 in the next year as the country's largest airline steers ahead with efforts to boost diversity and inclusivity. The airline, which is expanding its fleet and network, currently, has over 800 women pilots. Sukhjit S Pasricha, Group Chief Human Resources Officer at IndiGo, said the airline is driving inclusiveness in a big way by working in every area, including among engineering and flying staff.
