Telecom Dept deactivates 225,000 mobile numbers in Bihar and Jharkhand

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has deactivated more than 2.25 lakh mobile phone numbers in Bihar and Jharkhand in the month of April as majority of the SIM cards were allegedly procured through forged documents. The Telecom Service Providers have also blacklisted 517 Point of Sales (PoS) who have been prima facie found to be involved in unethical and illegal practices while issuing SIM cards. According to a statement issued by the Special Director General Telecom, DoT (Licensed Service Areas-LSA-Bihar) here, "In the month of April 2023 itself, more than 2.25 lakh mobile numbers have been deactivated in both states. The majority of the SIM cards were procured through illegal/unethical means. "Besides, 517 PoS have been blacklisted as they were found to be involved in unethical and illegal practices while issuing SIM cards. Jharkhand CM launches state's first air ambulance service from Ranchi

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday launched the state's first air ambulance service from Ranchi to other parts of the country. Soren flagged-off the service for which an aircraft of the Redbird Airways has been taken on lease, an official of the state civil aviation department said. The service will be provided at rates between Rs 3-8 lakh for places such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Varanasi, Lucknow and Tirupati. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said, "The service is an effort to provide timely better treatment to seriously ill people. The state government is also contemplating to extend the service to those who are unable to afford the fares." The state civil aviation department has set up a cell for the air ambulance service which can be availed through phone calls and emails. Jharkhand bandh demanding 100% reservation in jobs evokes mixed response

Public transport was affected and schools remained closed as the 12-hour shutdown by several students' organisations demanding 100 per cent reservation for locals in state government jobs evoked a mixed response in Jharkhand on Wednesday. Members of different organisations under the banner of the Jharkhand State Students' Union (JSSU) took to the streets to enforce a state-wide shutdown, which began at 6pm. Several student leaders were detained across the state for blocking roads by burning tyres and creating a ruckus, police said. Agitators belonging to various student bodies on Tuesday took out a torchlight procession in Ranchi demanding 100 per cent reservation for local people in Jharkhand government jobs. The procession was taken out as part of the students' 72-hour agitation over the issue. The protesters had on Monday attempted to gherao Chief Minister Hemanta Soren's residence but the police stopped them ahead of the spot, prompting them to take other routes to assemble near Sidhu-Kanhu Park close to the CM's house. An FIR was registered against 41 BJP leaders and workers, including Union minister Arjun Munda and former chief ministers Raghubar Das and Babulal Marandi, for violating prohibitory orders during the saffron party's recent secretariat gherao programme in the Jharkhand capital, an official said on Thursday. Police had burst tear gas shells, used water canons and lathi-charged the protestors to prevent them from marching towards the secretariat on Tuesday, where prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPc were clamped. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC were clamped around the Jharkhand Secretariat on Tuesday in view of BJP's gherao programme, officials said. BJP leaders and workers assembled near the secretariat shouting slogans against the Hemant Soren government and denounced the move as an "attempt to suppress the voice of the people". The saffron party undertook the gherao programme to protest "deteriorating law and order, prevailing corruption and high rate of unemployment" in the state. "Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC were imposed in the area from the Project Building campus to Dhurwa Square. The orders were promulgated at 8 am and will continue till late evening. Adani Power Ltd (APL) on Friday said a 800 MW unit at its thermal plant in Jharkhand has begun commercial operations. The second unit of the 1600 MW project is also in an advanced stage of completion and expected to be commissioned soon, the Adani Group company said in a filing. "This is to inform unit 1 of 800 MW capacity of the 2x800 MW ultra-supercritical power project of Adani Power (Jharkhand) Limited (APJL), situated in Godda has achieved commercial operations," it said. APJL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Power, will supply the power under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for corresponding net capacity of 748 MW from unit 1 to the Bangladesh Power Development Board. "APJL has started processing its claims under the PPA with effect from April 6, 2023," it said.

Jharkhand minister Jagarnath Mahto dies post lung transplant complications

Jharkhand Education Minister Jagarnath Mahto, who had undergone lung transplant, died at a hospital in Chennai on Thursday, an official said. Mahto was airlifted to Chennai last month due to health complications following the transplant in November 2020, which underwent after suffering from COVID-19, he said. NCERT's scrapping of chapter on Mughals, attempt to change history: Cong

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday performed the groundbreaking rituals for Tata Group firm Tinplate Company of India Ltd's (TCIL) Rs 2,000-crore expansion project in Jamshedpur. Addressing the programme, Soren said that after the state industrial policy was unveiled two years ago, several investors have shown keen interest to invest in the state, and the TCIL project is one such. The expansion project will create about 1,000 new jobs directly, and over 5,000 indirectly, he said. The Jharkhand unit of BJP will stage an agitation on April 11 against the Hemant Soren government over unemployment, corruption and "deteriorating" law and order situation in the state, a senior leader said on Sunday. Jharkhand BJP chief Deepak Prakash said that people from 32,000 villages of the state will respond to the 'Chalo Ranchi' slogan and stage a massive stir in front of the secretariat in the state capital. Jharkhand's commercial tax dept posts 114% collection in FY 2022-23

Jharkhand's Commercial Tax department posted a record collection of over Rs 21,000 crore for the financial year 2022-23, state Finance minister Rameshwar Oraon said. The target for the department for 2022-23 fiscal was Rs 18,500 crore. "The department's revenue collection is around 114 per cent against the target till Friday evening for 2022-23 fiscal. Against the target of Rs 18,500 crore, the collection reached over Rs 21,000 crore by Friday evening, which means Rs 2,500 more than the target. We hope Rs 10-15 crore will be added more to the collection by night," Oraon said, while briefing media persons on Friday. In 2021-22, the department had earned Rs 19,750 crore against the target of Rs 16,500 crore. "In 2021-22 fiscal, the collection was also more than the target but it had been achieved due to Centre's GST compensation to the states," he said.
