Turkish President Erdogan rakes up Kashmir issue during UNGA address

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday once again raked up the Kashmir issue during his address to world leaders at the high-level UN General Assembly session here. "India and Pakistan, after having established their sovereignty and independence 75 years ago, they still haven't established peace and solidarity between one another. This is much unfortunate. We hope and pray that a fair and permanent peace and prosperity will be established in Kashmir," Erdogan, a close ally of Pakistan, said at the General Debate. His comment comes less than a week after he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in the Uzbek city of Samarkand on Friday during which they reviewed the full range of bilateral relations and discussed ways to deepen cooperation in diverse sectors. In recent years, the Turkish leader has referred to the Kashmir issue in his address to world leaders at the high-level UN General Assembly sessions, causing

Killing spree, fear in Kashmir belie govt's normalcy claims: Farooq

Targeted killings of civilians and the pervasive fear among the people in Kashmir belie the government's claims of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir, NC president Farooq Abdullah said Thursday, alleging the administration has its head in sand. "This ostrich approach will push the situation to a point of no return," said the former J&K chief minister, presiding over a meeting of the National Conference's provincial committee (Kashmir) at Nawa-e-Subah here. Addressing the meeting, Abdullah reiterated the party's stand to "peacefully fight for restoration of J-K's identity and dignity" an apparent reference to J-K's special status which was revoked by the Centre on August 5, 2019. The NC president also expressed serious concern over the "deteriorating" security scenario in the valley leading to a series of targeted killings of innocents including members of the minority communities, the party said. "I unequivocally condemn the brutal killing of Vijay Kumar, a Bank Manager in Kulgam. The

Nobody will be allowed to disrupt peace and development in J&K: Amit Shah

Asserting that the government is aiming to wipe out terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir and put an end to civilian killings, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said nobody would be allowed to disrupt peace and development in the union territory, which has a place in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's heart. He said Rs 12,000 crore worth of investment has already come to the union territory and the government aims at a total of Rs 51,000 crore by the end of 2022 to provide five lakh jobs to the local youth. Addressing a public rally at Bhagwati Nagar here, Shah without naming the Congress, National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the three families are answerable to the people for their failure to develop Jammu and Kashmir over the past seven decades.
