The Centre Friday told the Supreme Court that monetary considerations come in the way of increasing monthly pension to old age persons as the government "just cannot draw" money from other places. The Centre's submitted this before a bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta while responding to arguments advanced by former union minister and senior advocate Ashwini Kumar, who has filed a plea seeking a direction to the Centre to increase the monthly pensions of Rs 200 and Rs 500 which were fixed way back in 2007 for senior citizens. Kumar, who told the apex court that he had "failed" as a parliamentarian and minister but did not want to fail as a citizen, said that in 2007 the Centre had fixed Rs 200 as pension to senior citizens aged between 60 to 79 while a person of 80-year-old and above was given a pension of Rs 500 only. Around 1,200 workers of the Hipad Technology India, which makes Xiaomi and Oppo phones, went on a rampage pelting stones at the building and barging into the facility in Sector 63, they said. However, the company had no official response till the time the report was filed. Police force was deployed at the site even as senior officers, including Superintendent of Police, Noida City, Sudha Singh, reached there to assess the situation. Singh said police were alerted about the violence breaking out at the factory, under Phase 3 police station limits, around 10 am and immediately reached the spot. Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat accused the Congress Thursday of copying its manifesto for the Rajasthan Assembly elections scheduled to be held on December 7. Makers of Kangana Ranaut-starrer "Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi" are yet to clear dues of approximately Rs 1.5 crore to the workers and junior artists, according to Federation of Western India Cine Employees. The film, which is due to be released on January 25 next year, is currently under post-production. The makers have been shooting some portions of the film at Filmcity in suburban Mumbai. In an official statement, Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilisers Mansukh L Mandaviya said the department of chemicals & petrochemicals has registered good progress by facilitating increased investments in Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemical Investment Regions (PCPIRs) for boosting industrial development and employment generation. Under the cluster-based development model, the department has identified four PCPIRs - in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu that are in advanced stages of implementation. "Upon completion, these PCPIRs will have an estimated investment of approximately Rs 8 lakh crore and are expected to generate employment for approximately 40 lakh people. West Bengal has around 30 lakh jobseekers registered in its employment banks, the state Assembly was informed Tuesday. "There are around 30,92,518 jobseekers registered in the employment banks of the state," Labour minister Moloy Ghatak informed the Assembly in a written reply. Around 1,63,748 people out of the 30,92,518 jobseekers are being given Yuvasree allowance in the state. Yuvasree is a financial assistance under which the West Bengal government gives Rs 1,500 per month to jobseekers enrolled in employment banks to enable them to enhance their employability by undergoing some education or training within the period of assistance.
