Auto majors Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have termed the upcoming Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) as a bold step in the right direction for the domestic industry. While welcoming the initiative, the automakers noted that it would encourage the production of safer cars in the country. "We at Mahindra believe it is one of the bold steps by the Ministry of road transport and we welcome the implementation of Bharat NCAP," Mahindra & Mahindra President, Automotive Technology and Product Development Velusamy R told PTI. This initiative of MoRTH will generate equal opportunities and create healthy competition among OEMs to make safer models for Indian customers, he added. "It is also expected that the government should give some benefits to OEMs that make safer cars to encourage them to continue to do so. Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Wednesday said it has launched a CNG trim of its compact SUV Fronx with price starting at Rs 8.41 lakh (ex-showroom). The two trims -- Sigma and Delta -- are tagged at Rs 8.41 lakh and Rs 9.27 lakh, respectively. The CNG variants come mated with a 1.2 litre petrol engine with a power output of 77.5PS and a fuel efficiency of 28.51 km/kg. "In 2010, we introduced our first CNG-equipped model, and since then, we have sold more than 1.4 million S-CNG vehicles in the country, which is a true testament to our customers' trust and faith in our technology," MSI Senior Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales) Shashank Srivastava said in a statement. The company is confident that the Fronx S-CNG will increase the share of S-CNG cars in its overall sales, and further strengthen the green mobility portfolio, now consisting of 15 models which is the best in the industry, he added.

Maruti Suzuki expects to keep growing faster than the domestic passenger vehicle industry riding on the back of strong demand for its models especially the SUV range, according to a senior company executive. The auto major anticipates the overall passenger vehicle market to grow in the range of 5-7 per cent this fiscal. In an interaction with PTI, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Senior Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales) Shashank Srivastava said the PV industry is expected to close the current fiscal at 40.5-41.3 lakh units. "We have not revised our estimates which we had made at the beginning of the year. We said the industry growth would be in the 5-7 per cent range and our growth should be higher than the industry," Srivastava said. He noted that in the first quarter, the company grew by 12.2 per cent while the industry grew by around 9.5 per cent. Maruti Suzuki on Thursday said it has initiated exports of the newly launched model Fronx. The first batch of 556 vehicles was shipped from Mundra, Mumbai and Pipavav Ports to destinations in Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, the country's largest carmaker said in a statement. "The newly launched Fronx is an important model in our portfolio, and we are confident that it will augment our ambitious export plans," Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director & CEO Hisashi Takeuchi noted. Aligned with the Government of India's efforts towards Make in India, the automaker is focused on leading the export of cars manufactured in India, he added. "With support from our parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan we have expanded our portfolio and are now exporting to more markets," Takeuchi said.

Maruti Suzuki India is looking to double its turnover to around Rs 1.68 lakh crore by 2030-31 from FY22 level in line with parent Suzuki Motor Corporation's global growth strategy, company Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said on Wednesday. The company expects India to "play a very big role" in Suzuki Motor Corporation's goal to achieve a global turnover of Rs 4.32 lakh crore in FY30-31, which would be exactly double the turnover of Rs 2.16 lakh crore achieved in FY21-22, he said. The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Saturday reported 2 per cent increase in total wholesales at 1,59,418 units in June. The company had dispatched 1,55,857 units to dealers in June 2022, MSI said in a statement. Last month, the company's domestic passenger vehicle sales rose 8 per cent to 1,33,027 units as against 1,22,685 units in the year-ago period, it added. Sales of mini cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, fell marginally to 14,054 units as compared with 14,442 units in the same month last year. Similarly, sales in the compact segment, including models such as Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire, slumped 17 per cent to 64,471 units as against 77,746 cars in June 2022. Sales of mid-sized sedan Ciaz increased to 1,744 units as compared with 1,507 units in June last year.
