RJD MP Manoj Jha on Wednesday alleged his lecture planned on September 4 has been cancelled by the Delhi University, and demanded a probe. Jha, a DU professor, said he was invited by the university's Centre for Professional Development in Higher Education, to deliver a lecture on "Political Social Work: New Opportunity for Practice". The invite was extended on August 18. But Jha received an e-mail from the varsity on Wednesday informing him that his lecture has been cancelled due to "unavoidable circumstances". "This is my university. I teach here. I have studied here and I am teaching here. I can speak in Parliament, on the street, write in newspapers. But I cannot address teachers of my university. AAP Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney on Saturday said he will set up 10 additional skill centres of excellence in Punjab that will create at least 10,000 jobs. More than 2,000 jobs have already been created after skilling youngsters at the skill development centre, he said. Sahney was speaking to reporters here on the completion of one year as a member of the Rajya Sabha. The first skill centre of excellence was set up in Amritsar. Now, another one will be opened shortly in Ludhiana where modern machines will be installed for the skilling of youngsters to make them employable in the industry, he said. Sahney said his major focus has been on skilling and creating jobs for Punjab's youngsters. "During this year, we provided 2,000 jobs after skilling the youngsters at our skill development centres. He was elected as Janata Party MLA in 1977 and as Janata Dal legislator in 1989 An FIR was lodged against Verma and others on January 25, 2017 at Tirwa police station by sub inspector Vinod Yadav for taking out a procession in violation of the model code of conduct. Around Rs 200 crore was spent on salaries, allowances and facilities for Rajya Sabha MPs over the last two years with around Rs 63 crore spent on their travel alone, according to an RTI reply. In 2021-22, in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic, the exchequer spent over Rs 97 crore on Rajya Sabha members. The amount includes Rs 28.5 crore on domestic travel and Rs 1.28 crore on international travel. Salaries amounted to Rs 57.6 crore, medical bills of Rs 17 lakh and office expenses of Rs 7.5 crore. It also spent Rs 1.2 crore on information technology assistance to the MPs. In the 2021-23, Rs 100 crore was spent in total which included Rs 33 crore in domestic and foreign travel expenses, according to the reply by Rajya Sabha Secretariat to a query filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act by Madhya Pradesh-based Chander Shekhar Gaur.
